Understanding Colorado State University's Green and Gold Scholarships

Colorado State University (CSU) offers Green and Gold Scholarships to recognize and support outstanding students. These scholarships are merit-based and are available to both Colorado residents and non-residents. No additional scholarship application is needed, as consideration is based on the application for admission. However, the specific eligibility criteria and award amounts vary depending on residency status.

Green and Gold Scholarships for Non-Residents

These scholarships are highly competitive awards aimed at attracting talented first-year students from outside of Colorado.

Eligibility Criteria for Non-Residents

To be considered for the Green and Gold Scholarship as a non-resident, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an incoming freshman (first-year) student.
  • Not be classified as a resident of Colorado.
  • Demonstrate a GPA of 3.2 or above. The highest cumulative GPA, whether weighted or unweighted, will be considered. If the GPA is reported on a scale other than 4.0, it will be converted or recalculated to a 4.0 scale.
  • Be admitted to a full-time, degree-seeking program on CSU’s main campus. CSU Online students are not eligible, even if they switch to a main campus major later.
  • Submit a complete application for admission by:
    • January 15 for a fall or summer semester start. Updated credentials to strengthen eligibility must be submitted by March 31. Note that funds won’t be available until fall if starting in the summer.
    • November 1 for a spring semester start. Updated credentials must be submitted by December 1.

Award Details for Non-Residents

Eligible non-resident students can receive up to $16,000 per year, paid in two installments each fall and spring semester. Note that award amounts vary. It is important to note that students cannot combine the Green and Gold Scholarship with certain other CSU scholarships, such as the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) award, the Native American Legacy Award, or the GI Promise, HB 15-1294 GI Benefits and Yellow Ribbon programs.

Green and Gold Scholarships for Residents

The Green and Gold Scholarship is also available to Colorado residents and is considered Colorado State University's most prestigious award for Colorado residents.

Additional Scholarship Opportunities

Colorado State University scholarships are available to first-time freshmen admitted to a degree-seeking program on CSU’s main campus in Fort Collins. All scholarships will only be for fall and spring semesters; unless otherwise noted. If a student starts in the summer the scholarship still cannot be used until fall semester. All awards require enrollment in on-campus credits and students in CSU Online programs are not eligible. Students who have attended another college or university after high school graduation are not eligible.

Browsing All Scholarships

To view a list of all scholarship opportunities, you may click “All” under “Opportunities” above. This list shows all scholarships, not scholarships for which you are receiving consideration. Automatch scholarships will appear with “None” listed under the “Action” column - this means an additional application is not required for consideration. The “Deadline” column indicates the deadline to complete the application to receive consideration. This is not the deadline to accept the award. Important: Scholarships with the word “Apply” to their right (after you sign in) require further action on your part in order to be considered.
