CCC was officially designated as one of California’s first Black-Serving Institutions (BSIs) under the newly enacted California Black-Serving Institutions Program Act (SB 1348). Assemblymember David Alvarez (D-San Diego) introduced AB 2694, which targets workforce shortages. These bills aim to allow community colleges to expand specific programs to allow students to complete their degrees and enter the workforce in regions where there is a need for workers but no local college offers a specific bachelor’s degree. Specifically, the nursing program at CCC offers two expedited paths to a bachelor’s degree.
