Concordia Nebraska Textbook Access Program

Beginning in Fall 2025, Concordia Nebraska introduced the Textbook Access Program to provide students with all required textbooks and course materials before the first day of class each semester. This program aims to increase accessibility to physical and digital course materials, including textbooks, lab manuals, access codes, and electronic books, at a single flat charge.

Key Features of the Textbook Access Program

  1. Comprehensive Access: The program covers all required textbooks and materials, ensuring students have everything they need for their courses.
  2. Flat Charge: Students pay a single, consistent charge for books regardless of their course, major, or the format of the materials.
  3. Timely Delivery: Materials arrive shortly before the start of the term, allowing students to prepare for their classes in advance.
  4. Digital Integration: Digital materials are easily accessible through the program’s eLibrary and can be accessed as courses are added or dropped.

Cost of the Textbook Access Program

The Textbook Access Program charge is added to the student account during normal billing time frames.

  • For undergraduate students taking 12 or more credit hours, the charge is a flat rate of $325 per semester.
  • Part-time and summer undergraduate students are charged $23 per credit hour.
  • Graduate students are charged $26 per credit hour.

Opting Out of the Textbook Access Program

While enrollment in the Textbook Access Program is automatic, students have the option to opt out by the add/drop day of each term.

  1. How to Opt Out: Students can log in using their school credentials and click the opt-out button.
  2. Deadline: The opt-out deadline is the add/drop day of each term.
  3. Refund: If a student opts out, the Textbook Access Program charge will be removed from their student account shortly after the add/drop deadline.
  4. Returning Books: Students who opt out after receiving books can return them at no cost.

Implications of Opting Out

Students who opt out of the program are responsible for purchasing all required textbooks on their own through alternate vendors or through the Textbook Access Program virtual bookstore.

Additional Information for Graduate Students

Graduate students enrolled for the term (both Module A and Module B courses) have only one opportunity to opt out, which must be done by the drop deadline of their Mod A course. They cannot opt back in or opt out at the start of their Mod B course.

Picking Up Physical Books

Physical textbooks are delivered to graduate students' homes and to the Bulldog Fan Shop in Janzow Campus Center for all undergraduates.

What Happens If Books Aren't Picked Up?

Failure to pick up textbooks does not result in the removal of the Textbook Access Program charge. The charge remains unless the student formally opts out by the add/drop deadline. If textbooks are not picked up by the add/drop deadline, they become the property of the university.

Accessing Digital Course Materials

Access information for all digital course materials is provided on or before the first day of class. Materials are available through Blackboard or the Textbook Access Program eLibrary.

Returning Physical Books

Students own the textbooks at the end of the term and do not need to return them. However, digital course materials may have time limits on access, which can be reviewed in the bookstore eLibrary account.

Physical vs. Digital Textbook Choice

Students do not get to choose between physical or digital materials. The decision is based on what the instructor selects for their course needs. If a physical textbook is selected, that is what will be provided. If not, the system will default to offering digital materials only.

Charge for Courses Without Textbooks

The Textbook Access Charge is a single charge calculated by the number of credits a student is taking and is not based on whether a specific course requires a textbook. It is recommended that students review their Textbook Access Charge and compare it to the costs of purchasing textbooks independently as a result of opting out.

Adding or Dropping a Class

  • Undergraduate Students (Full-Time): The flat charge of $325 applies to any full-time student registered for 12 or more credit hours.
  • Undergraduate Students (Part-Time/Summer): The Textbook Access Program charge is assessed at $23 per credit hour, so any changes made to registration before the add/drop deadline will result in a charge recalculation according to the number of credit hours.
  • Graduate Students: The Textbook Access Program charge is assessed at $26 per credit hour, and changes made to registration before the add/drop deadline will result in a charge recalculation.

The bookstore continually checks for new enrollments in classes up until the add/drop date, so new, needed materials will continue to be processed. For digital course materials that have not been accessed, codes will be deactivated, and students will no longer have access to the materials.

Failure to Return a Book

Students who drop a course or opt out before the deadline but after receiving a textbook will be sent a pre-paid return label. Failure to return the book may result in additional charges for the cost of the unreturned book.

Damaged or Missing Items

If there is a problem with the delivered items, the bookstore will replace them as needed. Students can contact the Textbook Access Program via the Help Page.
