Honoring Excellence: The Daniel B. Fambro Student Paper Award Winners
The Daniel B. Fambro Student Paper Award recognizes outstanding achievement in transportation research by students. This prestigious award highlights innovative contributions to the field and fosters the next generation of transportation leaders.
Recognizing Rising Stars: Recent Winners
The award has celebrated numerous talented students over the years. While a comprehensive list of all past winners is extensive, let's spotlight some notable recipients and their accomplishments.
- Bryce Grame and Gustavo Zschaber: These University of Florida civil engineering graduate students specializing in transportation engineering, won first place during the 3-Minute Student Pitch Competition held as part of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) International Meeting in Orlando, Florida, Aug. 10 - 13. Their success highlights the importance of clear and concise communication in conveying complex research ideas.
Research Focused on Improving Traffic Flow
Several award-winning papers have focused on optimizing traffic flow and safety, particularly in challenging environments like work zones.
- Four Regime Speed-Flow Relationships for Work Zones with Police Patrol and Automated Speed Enforcement: This research investigates the impact of different enforcement strategies on traffic flow within work zones.
- Traffic Flow Characteristics and Capacity in Police-Enforced and Intelligent Work Zones: This paper delves into the specifics of how police presence and intelligent transportation systems affect traffic dynamics in work zones.
Student Spotlights: Transportation Leadership Program
The Transportation Leadership program has produced several outstanding students who have gone on to make significant contributions to the field.
- Amanda Carpenter, Stacy Hill, and Daniel Soto: Each came to the Transportation Leadership program from very different careers within the transportation industry, representing areas such as construction, policy, and consulting. Their diverse backgrounds enriched the program and fostered a collaborative learning environment.
Faculty Contributions and Recognition
The success of students is often a reflection of the dedication and expertise of their mentors and instructors.
