Dassel Cokato Community Education Programs: Nurturing Early Childhood Development

The Dassel Cokato Community Education programs recognize the critical role of early childhood in shaping a child's future. Understanding that the early years are instrumental in a child’s development, these programs aim to empower parents and caregivers in fostering their child's learning and growth from birth. The programs offer a range of resources and classes designed to support families with young children.

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)

At the heart of Dassel Cokato's early childhood initiatives lies the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program. ECFE acknowledges that parents are a child's first and most influential teachers. Recognizing that parents shape their child’s development right from birth, setting the stage for future learning and growth, ECFE provides a supportive environment for families to learn and grow together.

All ECFE classes are facilitated by licensed teachers, experts in early childhood development. These teachers guide children in discovering and learning through engaging activities and play. Art, science, movement, games, and stories are used to stimulate curiosity, creativity, and social-emotional development. The curriculum is designed to be age-appropriate and responsive to the individual needs of each child.

Parent Discussion Time

A unique and valuable component of ECFE is the dedicated Parent Discussion Time. Led by a qualified parenting educator, these discussions provide a platform for parents to share their experiences, challenges, and joys of parenting. This is a space to connect with other parents, gain insights, and receive guidance on various parenting topics.

Sibling Care

Recognizing the needs of families with multiple children, ECFE offers sibling care services. Childcare for class participant’s siblings is provided by a dedicated sibling care provider for an additional fee. Registration for sibling care is conveniently done alongside the ECFE class registration. It's important to note that parents/caregivers and children remain in the Early Childhood classroom for the entire duration of the class.

Personalized Parenting Visits

For families seeking individualized support, ECFE offers personalized parenting visits. These visits are FREE for families with children ages birth to 5 (not yet in kindergarten). Parents can talk with the parent educator about any questions or concerns they may have regarding their infant, toddler, or preschooler. This personalized attention can be invaluable in addressing specific challenges and maximizing a child's potential.

Preschool Program

Dassel Cokato Community Education also offers a public school readiness program specifically designed for children ages 3 to 5. This program focuses on preparing children for the transition to kindergarten by fostering essential skills and a love of learning.

The preschool program recognizes that young children learn best through play. Licensed early childhood teachers intentionally design the classroom environment to encourage exploration and learning through play. The curriculum is research-based and aligned with the State of Minnesota Early Learning Standards, ensuring that children are developing the necessary skills for future academic success.

To be eligible for the preschool program, children must be 3 years old by September 1st and be able to use the restroom independently.

Transportation

Optional bus transportation HOME ONLY is available for the 3-4-5 Monday/Thursday afternoon class. Optional transportation may also be an option for the 4 & 5-year-old preschool classes for families with bus routes within the school district boundaries.
