David Duchovny: From Collegiate Scholar to Hollywood Icon
David William Duchovny, born on August 7, 1960, is an American actor, writer, producer, director, novelist, and singer-songwriter. He is best known for his iconic roles as FBI Agent Fox Mulder on “The X-Files” and the charismatic writer Hank Moody on “Californication,” both of which earned him Golden Globe awards. David Duchovny sure has carved a unique characteristic of his own to make him very special in every audience's heart.
Early Life and Education
A fine figure of Jewish and Scottish descent, he was born the second son of intellectual couple of writer also publicist Amram Ducovny and a teacher named Margaret on August 7, 1960 in New York City. At age 11, his parents sadly decided to have a divorce, leaving the boy alongside his two siblings taken under the care of his mother who chose to remain in Big Apple while his father left for Boston before stayed in Paris. Though life afterwards was not easy for him to undergo, he wonderfully made his way to earn a scholarship to the elite Manhattan's Collegiate School for boys where he later graduated as a class valedictorian which prompted the likes of Harvard, Yale, Browns, and Princeton to offer the bright student a seat eagerly. He is a 1978 graduate of Collegiate High School, in New York, NY, where he was a member of the Student Advisory Council as well as a star player on both the varsity basketball and varsity baseball teams. We have something in common, which is we are New York City boys. Went to collegiate.
Finally entered Princeton University to smoothly earn a BA degree by 1982, David shortly thereafter continued his post-graduate study at Yale majoring in English Literature and without much difficulty acquired his Master in 1987 before going on his way to a Ph.D. Born and raised in New York City, Duchovny attended Princeton University (where he played one season as shooting guard on the school's basketball team), received his Masters Degree in English Literature from Yale and was on the road to earning his Ph.D. when he caught the acting bug. He earned a Master of Arts in English Literature from Yale University and subsequently began work on a Ph.D. The title of his senior thesis was "The Schizophrenic Critique of Pure Reason in Beckett's Early Novels". In 1982, his poetry received an honorable mention for a college prize from the Academy of American Poets.
Early Career
Initially only landed small parts in movies like "Working Girl" (1988), "Bad Influence" (1990), also "Beethoven" (1992) to name few, the brown-haired guy then managed to come to public notice when he satisfyingly made a fine portrayal of journalist Brian Kessler opposite Michelle Forbes in "Kalifornia" (1993). One of his earliest roles was a bit part in 1988’s Working Girl. This was soon followed by a role in three episodes of the popular series Twin Peaks. Still recognized for his role as Dennis/Denise Bryson, the transvestite detective in David Lynch's breakthrough television series TWIN PEAKS, Duchovny also spent four seasons as the impassioned narrator of Zalman King's erotic anthology series RED SHOE DIARIES, which began as a feature length telefilm for Showtime.
The X-Files Phenomenon
However, it was not until he secured the role of FBI agent Fox Mulder in FOX series "The X Files" that the actor was ultimately able to embrace the widespread prominence he had aimed for. Duchovny’s career skyrocketed after he was cast as Fox Mulder in The X-Files, which premiered in 1993. Since THE X-FILES debuted, millions and millions of self-proclaimed "X-Philes" spent their Sunday nights wide-eyed in anticipation as their hero, the brilliant and sullen FBI agent Fox Mulder, explored cases de ed unbelievable or unsolvable by the Bureau. Dominated the ratings for some years after its first airing in 1993, "The X Files" really became such a fantastic vehicle for David to pen his name in the industry as he gloriously found himself being showered with prestigious accolades continuously during his stints there. Along the way, he had been nominated for Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series by 1997 and 1998, also that of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at Screen Actors Guild Awards for 5 consecutive years from 1996 to 2000, plus Golden Globes nods in 1996-1999 for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series - Drama which he won one at the 1997 event. In addition to the original series, he portrayed Mulder in two X-Files movies and a 2016 six-episode revival. David added the role of director to his already extensive list of accomplishments when he wrote, directed and starred in three critically acclaimed episodes of THE X-FILES, titled "The Unnatural", which starred Jessie Martin, and "Hollywood A.D.", starring Garry Shandling and actress Tea Leoni and "William". Duchovny's remarkable performance on THE X-FILES earned him the title of "Zeitgeist Icon" by Laura Jacobs in The New Republic and "the first Internet sex symbol with hair" by Maureen Dowd in The New York Times.

Writing and Directing

Duchovny played Roland "Rollie" Totheroh, Charlie Chaplin's longtime confidante and cameraman in the Sir Richard Attenborough directed CHAPLIN, which starred Robert Downey, Jr. in the title role; and starred in the smash hit BEETHOVEN, opposite Charles Grodin and Bonnie Hunt, as the evil yuppie determined to take over Charles Grodin's company. He wrote a play that was on Broadway in 1967 called The Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald, which was not funny. Although, Mel Brooks could have definitely done a Producers with that play-it was that bleak. If they would have made it a musical comedy, it would have done better. It closed in a week, and it was only four years after the assassination.
