General Admission Requirements
Applying to Delta College is a straightforward process with no application fee. Here's a breakdown of the essential requirements:
Application for Admission: The first step is to complete an Application for Admission through MyDelta.
Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from any high school and regionally-accredited college or university previously attended. All records submitted become the property of Delta College and cannot be duplicated or returned to the applicant. Transcripts are evaluated to determine the equivalency of other college coursework and how the courses will be accepted at San Joaquin Delta College.

Placement Requirements: All new Delta College students enrolling for the first time will receive math and English placement based on their high school GPA and high school coursework. The information will be collected through the application process and applied to the student’s record. High school GPA and math courses completed are utilized for placement into English and mathematics courses. No students are required to repeat coursework that they have successfully completed in high school or college or take coursework that repeats competencies that the student has demonstrated through other methods of credit for prior learning. International admission information is available online or in person from the Delta Connect Center located in the DeRicco Student Services Building, or by calling the International Student Office in the Office of Admissions and Records at (209) 954-5151 ext. 6164. Summer admission is not available for ESL students.
Registration
Completion of admission requirements does not constitute registration. A student may register for classes on or after their assigned registration date and time. Please refer to the Registration Calendar for important information regarding term dates and deadlines. Be prepared for registration. A first choice may be full.
Special Programs
To be assured consideration for special programs, all applicants must submit separate applications to the programs (including supporting documents as required). Each of the programs has separate qualifying admission requirements. The college advises prospective applicants to supply complete and accurate information on the application for admission. Further, applicants must submit authentic and official documents when requested. Admission to the program will be canceled automatically if the applicant accepted by the college for a given term fails to enroll for that term or fails to satisfactorily complete any work in progress.
Support Services
The Student Success and Support Program was designed to increase California Community College student access and success through the provision of core matriculation services including placement, orientation, counseling, and other education planning services. These support services are provided to assist students in achieving their educational goals and identified course of study.

Fees and Financial Aid
- California Resident Fees: Students who are California residents are charged $46.00 per unit, regardless of the number of units.
- Non-Resident Fees: Non-resident students, those from other states or foreign countries, are charged $381.00 per unit for tuition, plus $46.00 per unit enrollment fee. Fees are due at the time of registration.
- Student Activity Fee: The Student Activity Fee is a $10.00 optional fee charged at the time of registration during the fall and spring semesters. Funds collected are used to support campus life activities, clubs, and scholarships. Students who pay the fee are eligible to receive a Mustang Pass/student identification card, apply for scholarships funded by the Associated Students of Delta College (ASDC), access to the Student Food Pantry, and discounts at local businesses and on-campus events. Requests to waive the fee must be received no later than the Refund Deadline date as noted in the Schedule of Classes or on the Registration Calendar.
- Student Representation Fee: Students are assessed a fee of $2.00 per semester which is used to provide support to student governmental affairs representation.
- Payment of Fees: Enrollment fees are due at the time of registration.
- Enrollment fee assistance is available to qualified students through the Financial Aid and Scholarships Department.

Additional Opportunities
College Early Start
College Early Start allows high school students to enroll in San Joaquin Delta College courses and earn college credit. Each school district may decide to also grant high school credit for SJDC classes. College Early Start students may not enroll in remedial courses. The enrollment of high school students in physical education classes is limited to five percent of all the students enrolled. Therefore, high school students should plan to enroll in physical education classes at their high school. Only students officially enrolled during the registration cycle, before classes begin, will be allowed to attend physical education classes. As of Fall 2020, tuition and fees are waived for all high school students participating in College Early Start.
To participate in College Early Start:
- Complete the appropriate DEP or CES form.
- Signatures of the parent or legal guardian and the high school principal or their designee are required.
- Home-schooled students must also provide a current Private School Affidavit to Admissions staff.
- A (CES) Form is required for each term for which the student intends to enroll.
Credit by Examination
Credit may be earned by a student who satisfactorily passes authorized examinations; the cost is $46.00 per unit. The student may initiate a petition to challenge for credit by examination with advisement by a counselor.
Articulated High School Courses
Students who have completed an articulated course or courses in high school, with the minimum grade required, may have those courses accepted in lieu of comparable courses at San Joaquin Delta College. The articulated high school courses may also be used to satisfy requirements for a certificate program or major requirements in a degree program. The college is committed to a comprehensive articulation of instructional programs, with both secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, often referred to as 2+2+2 articulation. The 2+2 articulation links the high school or Regional Occupational Program (ROP) programs with San Joaquin Delta College programs. These articulated courses may lead to an Associate Degree or Certificate of Achievement when combined with courses taken at San Joaquin Delta College.

Apprenticeship Programs
San Joaquin Delta College has been affiliated with apprenticeship programs providing Related and Supplemental Instruction (RSI) for over 50 years. Apprenticeship programs are designed for particular apprenticeship occupations, following the State of California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) approved program standards. All programs are governed by the DAS, Apprenticeship Committee, and the California Community College Chancellor’s Office.
Apprenticeship programs are designed so that an employer hires the apprentice to increases occupational skills and knowledge while receiving On-the-Job Training (OJT). The apprentice also attends specific apprenticeship courses (RSI) provided or administered by Delta College. The apprentice’s educational program and OJT are under the direction of the Apprenticeship Committee.
The apprentice will be recommended for a Journey Level Certificate issued by the State of California Division of Apprenticeship Standards when the apprentice completes the required apprenticeship courses, meets the minimum number of OJT hours working with an approved employer, and has positive employer evaluations. Some apprenticeship programs also offer national certification and recognition for reaching journey level.
Anyone interested in applying for an apprenticeship program must apply to the particular apprenticeship program and not San Joaquin Delta College. The selection of the apprentice is made by the apprenticeship committee or employer according to the state approved Apprenticeship Program Standards.
Basic Peace Officer Academy
Peace officer positions are in great demand throughout the United States and especially in the State of California. The Public Safety Training Center wishes to make the training program available to all interested persons and maintain State and local mandated levels of performance.
The Basic Peace Officer Academy is certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to present a basic course to peace officers and pre-service students who qualify for program admission.
The course includes fundamental principles, procedures, and techniques of law enforcement, including: Principled Policing in the Community, Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Cultural Diversity, Investigative Procedures, Report Writing, Defensive Tactics, Firearms, Leadership, Professionalism, Ethics, Use of Force/De-Escalation, Police Vehicle Operations, Traffic Enforcement, Accident Investigation, Handling Emotional Situations, Officer Wellness and First Aid/CPR. The Delta College POST Academy works in partnership with police and sheriff’s departments throughout an eight-county region.
Requirements for the Basic Peace Officer Academy:
- Be at least 20 years of age.
- Be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test (GED) indicating high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university. The high school shall be either a United States public school, an accredited United States Department of Defense high school, or an accredited or approved public or non-public high school. Any accreditation or approval required by this paragraph shall be from a state or local government educational agency using local or state government approved accreditation, licensing, registration, or other approval standards, a regional accrediting association, an accrediting association recognized by the Secretary of the United States Department of Education, an accrediting association holding full membership in the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA), an organization holding full membership in the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), an organization holding full membership in the Council for American Private Education (CAPE), or an accrediting association recognized by the National Federation of Non-public School State Accrediting Associations (NFNSSAA).
- No felony convictions or certain misdemeanor convictions that are disqualifying for employment as a peace officer [GC§1029; PC§12021(c); 18 USC 922(d)(9)] in the State of California.
- Successfully pass the multiple-choice POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery examination with a total T-score of 40.0 or higher.
