Personal Counseling Services

When struggling with life changes, a Delta College counselor will provide support by listening objectively and helping you figure things out. If there are situations that require support from other community or campus resources, a counselor will discuss these options with you and make an appropriate referral. Appointments for non-crisis personal counseling can be made in person at the Counseling Center, DeRicco 2nd floor, room 234 or by calling (209) 954-5151 ext. 6276 or (209) 954-5151 ext.

Everyone gets stressed out by school-it's normal, actually. People experience stress differently. Sometimes, you just need someone to talk to about your worries or confusion about all that life is throwing at you. Delta College has counselors on staff, so you have someone to go to when you need it. To begin the counseling process, students fill out the Personal Counseling Services Intake Paperwork and a counselor will follow up within 24 business hours. Counseling services are voluntary and confidential, but the counselors will explain the limits to that confidentiality at your first session. Delta College complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Health Fee

The health fee allows Delta College to provide students with a variety of health and wellness resources including access to healthcare, substance abuse support, and mental health services for the college community. In accordance with Board Policy, students are required to pay a health fee, regardless of the units they are enrolled in. This fee is not waived by the California College Promise Grant (formally known as Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver). It is the student’s responsibility to pay the health fee every semester.

Health Fee Exemptions

Health fee exemptions are allowable only as outlined in the Education Code, section 76355, Title 5, sections 54700-54710, and San Joaquin Delta College Board Policy 5030. An exemption/waiver from the health fee is available to the following students:

Ways to Connect with a Counselor

Seeing a counselor is one of the most important things you can do to make sure you're on the right track. Here's a quick look at the best ways to get in touch:

Standard Appointments

Meet with a counselor for up to one hour for in-depth discussions about career and transfer goals, developing your Comprehensive Education Plan, completing a Financial Aid appeal, and much more. Counseling appointments are scheduled two weeks early, so plan ahead!

Same-Day Appointments

You can show up early in the morning and secure an appointment for later that day. Same-day appointments are available every day but Wednesdays are your best bet as more counselors are available. Arrive early to make sure you snag an appointment!

Drop-In Visits

These shorter visits with a counselor are best if you need clarification on a specific issue, like whether to add or drop a specific course. This works best for students inquiring about very specific things, like which course to take in a specific area. For more comprehensive guidance, you might be better off making an appointment. You can submit it anytime!
