Are you interested in gaining field experience in public health? A Department of Health internship can provide invaluable opportunities to apply skills learned in the classroom, gain practical and research experience, and fulfill academic requirements. These internships offer a venue where students can apply skills learned in the classroom.

A Broad Range of Opportunities

The Department of Health hosts a variety of internships across all divisions and public health regions. These opportunities are available to students of different academic levels from universities inside and outside of Texas. Interested students and post-graduates can view internship opportunities on the internship opportunities page.

Internship projects are offered three times a year, during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The agency has hosted interns across various areas, ranging from epidemiology and data analysis to communications and nursing, and more.

Program Components: Beyond the Project

Along with the intern project and day-to-day work, the program provides additional educational and networking opportunities to expose students to the varied work of DSHS as well as the many career paths in public health. The program offers a variety of structured activities to develop professional skills and gain a more comprehensive understanding of DSHS to provide a more in-depth internship experience.

Through the internship program, individuals are offered an opportunity to make a positive contribution and develop professional skills and experience.
