What Does the Level 5 DIT Cover?

Course Requirements
This course is 100% online, so you can study at your own pace and conveniently. You will be required to complete assignments and apply theoretical knowledge using the Harvard Referencing Style.
Teaching Hours
As part of the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching, you will need to log 150 teaching hours in total. At least 100 hours should be within your subject area, and you must also gain experience in remote teaching. Specifically, 20 hours must be remote synchronous (live) delivery, and 80 hours should be face-to-face teaching.
Observations
You will need to complete 10 observations of your teaching, with the majority involving a group of at least 10 learners. The observations must last a minimum of 45 minutes each. Up to two observations may be of live remote teaching, and one observation can be conducted remotely with proper arrangements for feedback and discussion. All candidates will undergo 10 observations. The majority should involve teaching groups of at least 10 learners. Each observation should be at least 45 minutes long. Up to two observations may be delivered remotely. In addition to support from the ATC Training tutor, candidates must have access to two workplace mentors. An observation report must be completed by a mentor or qualified observer in the workplace.

Work Placement
The candidate must source a work placement of at least 250 hours. At least 150 hours of this should be teaching practice. Of the 150 teaching hours, at least 100 hours must be in the candidate’s subject area. The 20 hours at the second placement are not specified as teaching hours and can be used for professional practice. Candidates must either be currently working as a tutor/teacher or secure a suitable work placement (paid or voluntary) for at least 250 hours, including 150 hours of teaching.
Assessments
This qualification is assessed by a portfolio of evidence that covers all assessment criteria for the units selected.
Numeracy and Literacy Skills
Candidates must demonstrate numeracy and literacy skills at Level 2. This means all trainees will have the skills to support their learners in these areas, regardless of their training route.
Course Structure and Delivery
Following enrolment onto the course, you will be contacted by your personal tutor, who will arrange an initial online meeting to introduce you to the course, it's structure and how to navigate our user friendly learning platform with ease.
During this meeting you will have the opportunity to ask any questions about the course, we will be happy guide you and answer your queries.

From then on, you have the option to arrange monthly online meetings with your tutor at mutually convenient times, or as and when you feel you need more support.
The content is delivered via structured videos with all questions and interactive learning activities included. These lessons cover all knowledge content and the performance evidence requirements.

Additionally, you will be eligible to apply to the QTLS programme upon completion. Should you wish to continue onto the QTLS programme, we will support you throughout the process. (Usually six months)
Teaching Practice - face-to-face
If you are not currently working in education, you would need to find a placement at an educational organisation in order to satisfy the face-to-face teaching practice requirement of the qualification.
One option is offer to teach on a voluntary basis, where an organisation will allow you to teach and complete your qualification whilst on your placement. (Please note that you will not be able to complete this qualification teaching children under sixth form level.)
