Centralis Scholarship Program
The Centralis Scholarship Program is one of CMU's most prestigious merit-based awards. Each year, it provides scholarships to 150 outstanding high school seniors. To be invited to compete for a Centralis award, new students entering CMU as freshmen must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.7 and an ACT composite score of 27 or higher (or an SAT score of 1250 or higher). The Centralis competition includes an examination administered on the CMU campus.
Several Centralis Scholarships have been established in memory of or in honor of individuals who have made significant contributions to CMU:
- The Martin H. Cholakian Centralis Scholarship: Named in memory of Martin H. Cholakian, a dedicated member of the Board of Trustees who supported CMU's efforts to bring higher education to non-traditional students.
- The John P. and Doris L. Moulton Crippo Centralis Scholarship: Established through the estate of Doris L. Moulton Crippo.

- The Fred R. McNabb Centralis Scholarship: Converted in 1996 from a loan fund established in 1976 through the estate of Fred R. McNabb.
- The Peterson Centralis Scholarship: Established by Mr. Peterson of Corning, New York, to recognize CMU's dedication to academic excellence.
- The Leonard E. Plachta Centralis Scholarship: In recognition of his years of service as president, the Board of Trustees established the Leonard E. Plachta Centralis Scholarship.

Ronald A. Zuverink Scholarship
This scholarship honors high school students who have a 3.25 cumulative GPA and an ACT composite score of 27 or SAT of 1250 or higher. The value of this award is $6000 per academic year and is awarded to new freshman who meet eligibility requirements. Funds are limited and are awarded first come, first served basis.

Additional Merit Scholarships
CMU also offers other merit scholarships for incoming freshmen with varying GPA and test score requirements:
- Scholarship: For students with a 3.00 cumulative GPA and an ACT composite score of 23 or higher or SAT of 1100 or higher. The award is $4500 per academic year.
- Scholarship: For students with a 3.00 cumulative GPA and an ACT composite score of 21 or 22 or SAT of 1040 or higher. The award is $3000 per academic year.
Funds for these scholarships are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Leader Advancement Scholarship (LAS)
The Leader Advancement Scholarship (LAS) is awarded through the Leadership Institute, an initiative designed to cultivate leadership skills in undergraduate students. This scholarship provides $2,000 per academic year to up to 50 incoming freshmen who have demonstrated leadership and involvement during high school. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0. Recipients are selected based on their LAS Application, a portfolio of activities, and an on-campus interview. Scholarship recipients must maintain full-time status and a cumulative GPA of 2.75 while at CMU and show significant progress on the LAS protocol.
Lloyd M. Cofer Scholarship
In memory of Dr. Lloyd M. Cofer, a charter member of the CMU Board of Trustees, up to ten scholarships are awarded each year to deserving undergraduate students who are graduates of a Detroit public high school. The scholarship value is $4,125 per year and is renewable for three additional years for recipients who maintain satisfactory academic progress, full-time continuous enrollment, and a 2.50 (or higher) cumulative GPA. Students are not eligible to receive the Cofer Scholarship and either the Wade McCree or Detroit Compact Award.
Multicultural Advancement Scholarship
The Multicultural Advancement Scholarship recognizes and supports students who demonstrate an interest in the advancement of minorities in American society. These scholarships are worth $4,125 per year and are renewable for students who maintain full-time enrollment and a 2.50 cumulative grade point average. Up to ten Multicultural Awards of Distinction are also awarded each year, covering tuition, fees, room and board, and a $500 allowance for books and supplies. The award is renewable for three additional years with a 3.25 (or higher) cumulative GPA, successful completion of the MAC scholars protocol, and completion of at least 30 new credit hours per year. Students are not eligible to receive both the Multicultural Advancement Award and either the Wade McCree or Detroit Compact Award.

Merit Scholarships for Transfer Students
CMU also provides scholarship opportunities for transfer students from Michigan community colleges and other institutions.
Transfer Student Scholarship
All new transfer students entering CMU directly from a Michigan community college with a minimum, cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and with a minimum of 30 transferable credits are eligible for this $1,000 award. This scholarship can be renewed for one additional year provided the student maintains full-time continuous enrollment at CMU with a 3.25 (or higher) cumulative GPA.
Gulstad Scholars Transfer Scholarship
The undergraduate Gulstad Scholars Transfer Scholarship honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students to transfer to and complete their bachelor's degrees at CMU in Fayette. Eligible students must be a current student at a community college, a sophomore with an anticipated graduation status, at least half-time, have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better on a 4.0 scale, and must meet the housing policy guidelines set forth in the CMU student handbook. Half-tuition scholarships will increase with the cost of tuition each academic year. Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA to be eligible for this award and must maintain a 2.0 to retain.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
A $1,000 scholarship is available to transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).

United Methodist Half-Tuition Scholarship
To qualify for the United Methodist Scholarship, a student must be an active United Methodist Church member in good standing with his or her local church for at least one year, which must be verified by the pastor. Half-tuition scholarships will increase with the cost of tuition each academic year. Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA to be eligible for this award and must maintain a 2.0 to retain.
Go Away to College Close to Home Program
Central Methodist University's Go Away to College Close to Home Program offers a 50% tuition waiver to students from Howard, Calloway, Camden, Cooper, Saline, Audrain, Randolph, Chariton, Moniteau, Montgomery, Pettis, Morgan, Cole, Osage, Monroe, Ralls, and Boone County. This scholarship applies to students who earned a minimum of a 2.75 GPA and are A+ eligible. Students may live on campus or at home with their parent or guardian (adhering to all CMU Housing policies).
RootED Alliance Scholarship
Several $10,000 rootED scholarships are available for graduating high school students and community college transfer students. rootED scholarship winners can double their money in a matching arrangement with CMU.
Legacy Grant
Students who have a parent, grandparent, or sibling who has graduated from CMU may be eligible for a $1,000 grant.
Marine Biology Day Scholarships
On CMU's Marine Biology Day, students can learn about the Marine Biology major and find out more about stackable $5,000 scholarships for the best students, including the Scuba Diving Student of the Day, Sea Urchin Student of the Day, and Greg Thurmon Marine Biology Student of the Day.
Central Scholars Competition
The Central Scholars competition is an invitation-only event for students in their senior year of high school. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 to be invited to participate.
Central's Got Talent Scholarship Competition
Centralâs Got Talent is an annual event for students in their senior year. Two full-tuition scholarships will be awarded after competition in Vocal, Instrumental, and Praise Band. Center Stage acting and theatre design competitions also take place, with major scholarships awarded to the top three winners in each category. Upon application/registration, students may receive an invitation from the Office of Admissions to compete.
Participation Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to students participating in designated CMU activities. The scholarships vary in amount and require an audition, interview, or tryout with the appropriate activity director, coach, or faculty member. A student may combine only one participation scholarship and academic scholarship.
Gulstad Achievement Scholarship
The Gulstad Achievement Scholarship is for students who want to study at one of CMUâs extended sites or online. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be enrolled at least half-time, have completed an associate's degree from a CMU partner community college, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship will be split between two semesters. The award amount received each semester is based on the number of hours enrolled in at CMU. Scholarship proceeds will not exceed Institution costs determined after grants have been received.
METALS Program Merit Scholarships
