A student that enrolls in a Lewis University-sponsored Study Abroad program will be considered for all of the financial aid they would receive as if they were enrolled at Lewis, including grants, loans, and scholarships.

Lewis University provides a variety of study abroad opportunities on four continents: from semester and summer programs for immersive cultural experiences to Travel Study programs for shorter, focused trips that blend coursework with guided travel. Our overseas and off-campus programs are immersive experiences in unexpected places, and they are often led by one of our own faculty members. Running from a semester up to a full academic year, our programs give students the time to live new experiences and perspectives rather than simply observe them.
Featured Program: The Lewis University Rome Program at LUCE
Take to Rome, Italy, to discover the Lasallian Universities Center for Education (LUCE) in the Generalate, the motherhouse of the De La Salle Christian Brothers. The Lewis University Rome Program at LUCE is a unique study abroad opportunity for students from Lasallian colleges and universities around the world to study with each other while living at the Lasallian Universities Center for Education (LUCE) in the Generalate, the motherhouse of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in Rome, Italy.

Experiencing Rome and Lasallian Heritage
This exciting program provides students the opportunity to use Rome as their classroom as they complete courses toward their degree while gaining a deeper understanding of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the De La Salle Christian Brothers, and the international Lasallian network. Conveniently located less than a block from the Metro and major bus lines, all of the famous sites of Rome are just a few minutes away. Located 300 meters from the Metro, it is a short distance to St. Peter’s, the center of Rome, and nearby cultural and historic points of interest. From here you can easily visit other European countries.
Lewis University faculty members lead the Lewis Rome Program at LUCE, living at the Generalate with the students, teaching courses, and traveling with the students on program sponsored excursions. Students will take a full load of courses, including one course from each of the faculty leaders, for a total of four to six courses. Classrooms and meeting rooms are reserved for daytime instruction. Your coursework here will count toward your degree program. The Chapel offers a beautiful place to pray before the relics of St.
Living and Learning at the Generalate
Students will live in a single person room at the Generalate. Each room features a bed, desk, chair, and wardrobe, and a bathroom with shower. A meal plan at the Generalate dining facilities will also be provided as part of the program.
Program Costs and Eligibility
For Lewis University students, the cost of the program will be Lewis University tuition and all financial aid applies. Program costs are based on costs of the prior year, as well as projections for the current and coming years. Inflation and fluctuating exchange rates make it difficult to state a fixed cost. To be eligible, you must be a student with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Affordability and Financial Aid
They are also affordable, as the cost is comparable to a semester or year on campus, and your financial aid can typically be applied. The cost of studying overseas is comparable to a semester or year on campus, and the fee includes tuition, room and board, on-site transportation and excursions, and supplemental travel insurance. The program fee does not cover airfare to and from the program location.

Planning Your Study Abroad Experience
Overseas or off-campus study does require planning ahead, and we’re here to help! You’ll need to consider language or course prerequisites and GPA requirements. Your college or faculty advisor will help you review your graduation plan and determine which semester or year overseas study fits best for you. The overseas study program application is four pages long and includes 4-5 short answer essay prompts, each with a maximum of 250 words.
At Lewis & Clark, we encourage all students to consider participating in an overseas or off-campus program. Even if you’re majoring in a hard science with a stringent course load or competing as a varsity athlete, we will work with you to incorporate overseas study into your experience.
