Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) offers an Associate in Science (A.S.) in Radiography track in affiliation with our program. (Program code: 2254.) Interested students must apply to FSCJ and must complete prerequisite courses at FSCJ. You must complete 19 credits at FSCJ to be eligible for the A.S. degree.

Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Radiography Program

The Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Radiography Program has specific application requirements. Unofficial transcripts from all educational institutions, including all college and university credits and grades from your most recent quarter or semester, may be uploaded in the Supplemental Items area for application purposes.

Valencia College Radiologic Technology Program

Valencia College offers a Radiologic Technology Degree Program in Orlando, Florida. The Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology is a 76-credit undergraduate program which prepares you for a career as a radiologic technologist. The Orlando campus degree program provides students with fundamental knowledge and skills in the principles of radiography, radiographic procedures, radiologic pathology, cross-sectional anatomy, and much more.

General Requirements and Considerations

Regardless of the specific program, several general requirements and considerations apply to aspiring radiologic technologists.

Academic Prerequisites

Applicants are not required to have an academic degree completed prior to enrolling in our radiography program, just a few prerequisite courses.

You must complete at least 13 of the 29 semester credits prerequisites prior to applying to the program. The remaining prerequisite credits must be completed by the start of the program in January.

English Language Proficiency

Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for success in the program and to ensure patient safety. Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT). Scores from the speaking portion of the exam are given particular consideration in admission decisions. Equivalence by an accredited credential evaluation service company prior to submission. Health and Safety Requirements

Enrolled students are required to be covered in a medical insurance plan throughout their educational program at Mayo Clinic. Students who do not have health care coverage should purchase a policy from an agency or company of their choice. Candidates accepted into the Radiography program are required to provide evidence of a recent physical examination, laboratory test results and immunization records. Learners must complete purified protein derivative (PPD) skin testing to determine exposure to tuberculosis. The trend of mandatory annual influenza vaccination for all employees, physicians, volunteers, and learners engaged in providing health care is growing. Learners enrolled in the CF Radiography program may be required to receive the annual influenza vaccination in order to maintain their learner status at a clinical externship site.

Background Checks and Drug Screening

Many health care organizations require mandatory drug screens and a federal criminal background check prior to clinical education placement. All candidates accepted into the Radiography program cohort are required to undergo substance screening and a background check as part of the acceptance process. Clinical education site affiliates may deny access to individuals based on results of a federal criminal background check and/or substance screen.

UCF plays a role in the journey of aspiring radiologists. M.D. graduate Dr. Mariya Kristeva showed up to rehearsal the day before commencement, she did so with two-month old Dimitri strapped in a carrier on her stomach. When Dimitri was just weeks old, Kristeva learned she had matched into interventional radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in the St. Louis. Not only is she the first UCF med student to match into the highly competitive specialty, but she secured one of only two residency positions available annually at the institute. She will do a transitional year at UCF’s residency program with HCA Healthcare in Kissimmee before moving to St.

Kristeva's journey highlights the dedication and perseverance required to succeed in this field. Her story began in 2004 when she enrolled in medical school in Uzbekistan. After migrating to the United States, she had to start again, completing an online bachelor’s degree at Empire State College and taking the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). As a new mom, she chose UCF in 2015 because of her positive interview experience.

Curriculum and Learning Experience

Students in a cohort will advance through the radiography curriculum at the same pace, learning the same program radiography content at the same time. The educational experience varies from classroom lecture, directed self-study using e-resources, interactive group projects, discussion, oral presentations, homework assignments, computerized testing, mock credentialing exams, skills lab performance, oral testing, and hands-on clinical experience. Emphasis is placed on demonstration of clinical competency, critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, and professional behaviors.

Clinical Education

Clinical Education courses offer students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they’ve gained in the classroom and laboratory to a supervised, real-world clinical setting. The program includes five clinical education courses, during which students are required to rotate at least twice each semester through partner facilities. Clinical facilities for the program are located throughout Marion, Citrus, Levy, Sumter, Lake, and Alachua counties. Students are responsible for arranging transportation and must commit to attending and completing all assigned clinical rotations, regardless of the travel involved.

The CF Radiography program is an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists recognized primary-pathway educational program. CF maintains accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which is an ARRT recognized accreditation mechanism. CF is also approved by the Florida Department of Education to award associate degrees, baccalaureate degrees, college credit certificates and occupational certificates. The program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
