Dolphin Cove CSI Student Housing: Your Home Away From Home
Choosing where to live during your college years is a significant decision. For students attending the College of Staten Island (CSI), Dolphin Cove student housing offers a comprehensive living experience designed to support academic success and personal growth. This article provides detailed information about Dolphin Cove, covering everything from accommodation options and amenities to application procedures and community life.
Why Choose On-Campus Housing?
National research consistently demonstrates the benefits of on-campus living, particularly during the first year of college. Students who live on campus:
- Transition more easily to campus life.
- Are retained at higher rates.
- Graduate faster.
- Are more involved in campus activities.
- Are more connected to the college and local community.
Dolphin Cove aims to provide a supportive environment that fosters these positive outcomes.
Accommodation Options and Features
Dolphin Cove offers fully furnished apartments designed with student needs in mind. Key features include:
- Fully Furnished Apartments: Nearly all apartments are fully furnished at no extra cost, eliminating the need for a moving truck and simplifying the move-in process.
- Private Bedroom and Bathroom Floor Plans: Students can choose to share a bedroom in a 3-bedroom apartment or opt for a private bedroom in 2, 3, and 4-bedroom apartments. All students share a bathroom with one roommate.
- Roommate Matching Program: Dolphin Cove utilizes RoomSync, a roommate matching app, to help students find compatible roommates. This app allows students to create personal profiles, search, filter, chat, and match with potential roommates based on shared interests and preferences.
- Individual License Agreement: Each resident has their own individual license agreement, making them responsible only for their portion of the monthly rent. This eliminates the worry of being liable for a roommate's unpaid rent.

Financial Information
Understanding the financial aspects of student housing is crucial. Here's what you need to know:
- Financial Aid: After submitting your application, application fee, and security deposit, confirm that your awarded aid is sufficient to cover your expenses. If not, visit your financial aid counselor to review your aid or explore the possibility of increasing your student loan.
- Scholarships: Macaulay Honors College Students and other students with academic scholarships are permitted to apply for student housing. However, scholarships may not cover housing costs.
- Payment Options: Rent can be paid online through the Resident Portal using credit cards, debit cards, or ACH payments.
- Cost of Attendance: CUNY estimates the total cost to attend CSI and live on campus using the Living Away from Home budget for all Dolphin Cove residents. This budget includes tuition, books, supplies, and housing. New York State residents pay a flat rate for full-time tuition, while non-NYS residents pay a higher tuition rate and pay on a per-credit basis for full-time studies (12 credits or more).
Important Considerations
- Renters Insurance: While not required, renters insurance is highly recommended to protect your personal belongings. Coverage is not included in the Lease Agreement.
- Meal Plans: All first-time residents of Dolphin Cove are required to purchase either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze meal plan for the first two (2) consecutive semesters residing on campus.
- Opt-Out Policy: Eligible incoming students, as defined in the Residency Requirement Policy, can request an “opt out” form and, upon approval from the College, receive an exemption from the first-year residency requirement.
- Landline Phones: There are no landline phones in the apartments.
