Navigating College Hockey: A Guide to Student Ticket Discounts
Attending college hockey games can be an exciting part of the university experience. Many institutions offer discounted ticket options for students, making it more affordable to cheer on their school's team. This article provides a comprehensive overview of how college students can access these discounts and make the most of their gameday experience.
Eligibility for Student Tickets
Typically, currently enrolled students taking a minimum number of credits, and affiliated students who pay the athletic fee, are eligible for student tickets to various athletic events. In some cases, such as at Arizona State University (ASU), Maricopa Community College students may also be eligible to purchase student tickets on a single-game basis. They must purchase these tickets in person on gameday at the Sun Devil Ticket Office at Desert Financial Arena, presenting a valid Maricopa Community College ID at the time of purchase. Ticket prices vary by event.
Accessing Student Tickets
The process for obtaining student tickets can vary from school to school. At ASU, for example, students can enter Mountain America Stadium at the Southeast gate starting 90 minutes prior to kickoff. They will need to scan their mobile ticket to gain entry to the stadium. All student seating is General Admission, and seating is first-come, first-served.
Some universities offer programs to provide early access to tickets. At Minnesota State, the "Fast Pass" program allows students early access to men's hockey student tickets beginning the Monday of each home game week. Students can pick up their tickets at the main Athletics Office (Myers Field House 135) Monday - Wednesday morning. Any Fast Pass tickets not claimed by 10:30 am on Wednesday of game week are released to the general student body as part of the main ticket distribution, which takes place every Wednesday of a game week from 11:30-1 (or until all tickets are claimed) in the Centennial Student Union and University Dining Center. The Fast Pass costs $60 for the year, guaranteeing tickets for every regular season Maverick men’s hockey game.
Seating Arrangements
Student seating is often designated in specific sections of the venue. At Minnesota State, a student ticket grants access to the student section in sections 108 and 208-213, all of which are general admission. Once all student tickets are distributed, students have the option of purchasing a $5 reserved seat ticket from the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. This ticket is valid only for the assigned seat and does not grant access to the student section.

Some universities also offer designated sections for graduate students and students with families. At ASU, Section 1, in the southwest corner of the stadium, has been designated for graduate students and students with families. When claiming a ticket, students should ensure they claim a ticket in Section 1 if they wish to sit in this area.
Guest Passes
Many universities allow students to purchase guest passes for friends or family who are not students. At ASU, guest passes may be purchased through a Sun Devil Ticket account for football and men’s basketball. For all other sports, passes can be purchased at the venue on game day. The guest must be accompanied by a student with a valid ID to receive a ticket. Typically, there is a limit of one guest pass per student for all sports.
Student Code of Conduct
It's important to remember that all students are held to the Student Code of Conduct while attending athletic events. This includes responsible behavior and adherence to university policies.
