Navigating Dual Enrollment at Sacramento City College: A Comprehensive Guide

Dual Enrollment presents a unique opportunity for high school and adult school students to get a head start on their college education by taking classes at Los Rios Community College District, including Sacramento City College. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the requirements, procedures, and benefits of the Dual Enrollment program at Sacramento City College.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment is a program that allows current high school and adult school students to take classes at Los Rios Community College District. It offers enrichment and advancement in educational experience. Note that your high school may have a College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) agreement with Los Rios Community College District that establishes pathways of courses that meet specific goals.

Eligibility and Initial Steps

High school students should request information from their high school counselor regarding eligibility and complete the Special Admit Form. Meet with your high school or adult school counselor (or designee) to discuss prospective courses you wish to take. After the Special Admit Form has been approved, Admissions and Records staff will enroll the student in classes.

Enrollment Process

  1. Application: If you are a new Dual Enrollment student, you must complete the online application.
  2. Supplemental Enrollment Form: A Dual Enrollment student is not considered a continuing student when registering for classes for any subsequent semesters. If you are a continuing (current) student, you need to submit a supplemental enrollment form each semester instead of a CCCApply application. You can find the Supplemental Enrollment Form in eServices (click on the Tasks tile). The form asks you to review and update your contact information, education goal, and major.
  3. Student ID: It can take up to 24 hours for a new student ID number to populate these services.
  4. Enrollment Appointment: Dual Enrollment students receive priority 3 registration. You will be assigned an enrollment appointment date and time, which is the earliest date and time you can enroll in classes. You can find your enrollment appointment time in eServices.
  5. Class Schedules: Review class schedules as soon as they are posted online. Go to class schedules. Typically, summer priority registration dates and times are posted in February, fall priority registration dates and times are posted in April, and spring priority registration dates and times are posted in November.
  6. Register for Classes: You can enroll in classes online in eServices. You can enroll in classes at multiple Los Rios colleges. Go to eServices or learn more about enrollment appointments.
  7. Attend First Class: Attend the first class session, even if you are not on the waitlist.

Important Considerations

  • Residency: Students who are not physically located in California may not enroll in online courses offered by Los Rios Community College District. Los Rios Community College District is not authorized to provide education outside the boundaries of the State of California.
  • Fees: Tuition fees and Universal Transit Pass (UTP) fees are waived for Dual Enrollment students - however, you are responsible for paying the rest of your fees, including the student representation fee. You can see how much you owe and pay your fees in eServices. Tuition fees are not waived for international students.
  • Financial Aid: Financial aid award amounts are based upon financial aid course applicable units enrollment level.
  • Zero Textbook Costs: Zero Textbook Costs means that there is no cost for course learning materials such as a textbook, reader, workbook, etc.

Meta Majors

Sacramento City College organizes its programs of study into meta majors, which are groupings of similar academic programs and career fields. These include:

  • Arts and Communication: This meta major refers to career fields and programs of study that are related to humanities, journalism, and writing, art, art history, media design, literary arts, technical arts, language, photography, performing arts, and fashion design.
  • Business & Industry: Students who choose the Business & Industry meta-major can enjoy employment, advancement, and challenging careers in marketing, management, finance, accounting, real estate, and entrepreneurship. The career pathways include occupations that provide a bridge between business processes or initiatives and information technology processes.
  • Health Services: These groups of majors reflect the segment of the health care field that delivers services involving the identification, evaluation and prevention of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutrition services; and rehabilitation and health systems management. Careers in these professions play roles in evaluating and assessing a patient’s needs, keeping the physician and others informed of the patient’s progress and caring for the patient.
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): These are the degrees with the most influence over our economy. Science, engineering and math graduates ultimately control how our environment expands and stabilizes. Studying how the most basic things work and interact, these students invent technology that affects the daily operations and capabilities of all other industries.
