USC offers a number of different types of education abroad programs to match students' academic and geographic preferences. The application process varies depending on the type of program you choose, so it's important to understand the distinctions.

USC Faculty-Led Programs

These programs, developed by the Education Abroad Office as part of the Global USC Program portfolio, typically focus on a specific subject area or foreign language and are led by USC faculty members. Courses are taught by USC faculty members, often incorporating elements of local culture and community engagement. These programs typically take place during the summer, winter break, Spring Break, and Maymester. Program sites and course offerings vary from year to year. Each program leader chooses who to enroll in their program and when.

Direct Enroll Programs

USC offers direct enroll programs in conjunction with partner institutions around the world. Students selected to participate in an exchange program will be charged USC in-state tuition, paid directly to USC.

External Programs

The university understands that students may be interested in programs that are unaffiliated with USC. However, the university does not promote any external programs to students.

Navigating the Application Process

The application process varies depending on the program type. For USC Faculty-Led Programs, the EAO admits applicants on a rolling basis up until the date listed below, but may fill sooner. There is a $50 late charge unless stated otherwise. For these programs, each program leader chooses who to enroll in their program and when. For affiliate programs, students apply directly to the affiliate partner.

Funding Your Global Experience: Scholarships and Awards

USC is committed to making education abroad accessible to all students. Several funding opportunities are available to help offset the costs of studying abroad:

The Beyond Boundaries Award: USC students who qualify for the Pell Grant are eligible to compete for this award. The Beyond Boundaries Award operates on three application cycles. Applications may be submitted by the priority deadline of July 15 or the regular deadline of October 15, or the deadline of October 15 or the regular deadline of March 15.
CEA Award: Year or semester students will receive a $600 grant. Summer students will receive a $300 grant. Students must use the specified code at the time of application to CEA. The award amount is determined by CEA.
