Transform Your Sims' Education with the Education Overhaul Mod
The Sims 4 offers a world of possibilities, but sometimes the education system can feel a bit lacking. Enter the Education Overhaul mod by Adeepindigo, a comprehensive addition designed to revamp your Sims' schooling experience, making it more realistic, interactive, and engaging. This mod introduces a variety of features, from preschool for toddlers to boarding schools for teens, along with enhanced homework, school projects, field trips, and even a new teaching career path.
Preschool for Toddlers: A Head Start in Life
One of the most significant additions is the option for toddlers to attend preschool. This allows parents to send their toddlers to preschool on Mondays through Fridays for approximately 7 hours. During this time, toddlers will develop their skills, have their needs met, and learn important character values.
To enroll a toddler in preschool, simply click on the toddler and select "Enroll to Preschool." They will then attend preschool from 7:30 AM to around 2:30 PM every weekday. While the toddler is at preschool, their needs will be taken care of, they will gain skills, and their character values will increase.
It's important to note that the game's built-in daycare/nanny system may still generate notifications about unattended toddlers, even when they are at preschool. In these cases, selecting the "Send to Daycare" option will ensure that the toddler remains at preschool. Traveling off-lot with another Sim may cause the toddler to return from preschool early.
New School Options for Children and Teens: Choosing the Right Path
The Education Overhaul mod expands the educational options available for children and teens, offering a range of choices to suit different personalities and aspirations. These options include:

- Wintercrest Preparatory School and SimCity Academy: These are independent/private prep schools that offer a first-rate education with increased skill gain and character value development. Sims attending these schools will wear uniforms.
- Bedlington Latin School: A specialized exam school for academically gifted students.
- Striker Alternative School: An alternative school designed for students with learning difficulties or behavioral/social-emotional challenges.
- Fort Starch Military Institute and Huntington Preparatory Academy: Experimental boarding schools that offer a unique educational experience.
The Application Process: Earning a Place
Enrolling in the new school options requires completing an application process on the computer, found under the "School" menu within the "Career" section. The application typically involves:
- Paying an application fee (for private/independent schools).
- Writing a personal statement or essay.
- Participating in a tour, interview, or evaluation.
After submitting the application, Sims will usually hear back from the Admissions Committee within 4 hours. If accepted, parents have 24 hours to enroll their child before the spot is lost. Rejection is possible, but less likely for students with good grades.
Virtual School: Learning from Home
For students who prefer to learn from home, the mod offers a virtual school option. Students can enroll through the phone or computer and must log in and out of the virtual classroom at the beginning and end of each school day. While attending virtual classes, students choose one core class, one elective class, and one skills class. Students enrolled in Virtual School can still participate in school activities, receive assignments, and attend after-school events.
Occult School: Education for the Supernatural
Occult Sims have the option to enroll in an occult-only school through the phone or computer.
Boarding School: An Experimental Experience
Boarding schools are an experimental feature in the Education Overhaul mod. Students attending boarding school can only be withdrawn at their parent's request or upon aging up to a young adult. There is a chance that after a few days, the Sim may become homesick, prompting a notification to the parents asking if they wish to withdraw the Sim. While at boarding school, Sims can still communicate with family members through texts and the relationship panel.

During holidays and after aging up to a teen, boarding school students will return home for a two-day break before returning to school. Upon aging up, parents will be prompted to pay for another year's tuition or unenroll the Sim, in which case they will be enrolled in public school. During summer, boarding school students will come home for summer break but can be sent back to school at any time through the phone menu. Sims at boarding school have the opportunity to learn and gain most major skills.
If boarding school doesn't work as expected, Sims can be withdrawn via phone/computer and enrolled in another school option. To formally enroll a Sim in another school, they must first be withdrawn from boarding school.
Enhanced School Experience: More Than Just Grades
The Education Overhaul mod enriches the school experience with new activities, homework assignments, and consequences for misbehavior.
Homework and Projects: Learning Beyond the Textbook
The mod introduces a new homework book with more specific assignments that help students develop skills and improve character values. Children and teens may receive homework assignments such as writing English papers or solving linear equations.
In addition to regular homework, students will also receive random projects and assignments every week or two. These assignments can range from writing an essay or studying for an exam to more engaging activities like visiting an observatory, practicing lines for a performance, painting, or coding. Completing these custom projects and assignments before the next school day will improve their work performance.

The mod also integrates with the Parenthood School Projects, assigning them randomly along with the custom assignments.
Detention: Consequences for Bad Behavior
The Education Overhaul mod brings back detention as a consequence for misbehavior. If a Sim spends too much time sleeping in class, disrupting class, goofing off, or getting caught doing homework, they may be sent to after-school detention for about 2 hours. The poorer a student's grades, the more likely they are to receive detention. Parents may also discipline students who receive detention.
New School Interactions: Shaping Young Minds
The mod introduces several new school interactions that allow students to shape their learning experience:
- Goof Around (Irresponsible): Increases Fun.
- Participate in Group Work: Increases Fun, Social, Skills, Responsibility, and Conflict Resolution.
- Copy Homework: Increases Homework Completion, Decreases Responsibility and Manners.
- Actively Participate (Study Hard): Increases Performance, Skills, Empathy, Responsibility, and Manners.
- Be Disruptive: Increases Fun, Lowers Performance, Responsibility, Emotional Control, and Manners.
- Sleep During Class: Increases Energy, Decreases Manners and Responsibility.
- University Prep (Teens only): Increases Performance, Skills, and Responsibility.
- Take Notes: Increases Performance, Skills, and Responsibility.
Field Trips: Learning Outside the Classroom
Students will now have a small chance at the beginning of the day to go on one of six Field Trips with classmates instead of to School. The field trip will start like rabbithole field trips with a notification on the day of the field trip that it's going to take place that morning and then another notification when it's time to go. Once it is time to go, your sim will need to choose an option from the appropriate venue. Once at the venue, your sim will be joined by a Teacher Chaperone and 5-10 classmates. The event itself will guide your sim in activities for the field trip. The field trip lasts for a school day (6 hours). The main goal of the field trip is for your sim to hear the field trip lesson from their teacher and engage in activities adjacent to that lesson. The teacher should automatically start the lesson, but should they not, your sim is able to ask the teacher to begin the lesson.
School Activities: Extracurricular Enrichment
At the end of the school day, children and teens can choose to participate in a Spelling Bee (grade school only), Student Body Elections (teens only), Science Fair, or Art Showcase.
Snow Days and Summer Breaks: A Time for Relaxation
Sims enrolled in all schools will now no longer be required to attend school during the summer and winter. They will have the opportunity be on break for the entire summer and mid-to-late winter and will automatically return to school on the next weekday of Fall/Spring.
Dropping Out of School: A Second Chance
Children and Teens have the ability to use the Drop out of School option available in the School menu on the phone. Dropping out will make it more difficult to become promoted if they seek employment. An adult in the household can always enroll them back in school if they change their minds.
Graduation: Celebrating Success
Graduation now occurs automatically on a teen Sim's last day as a teen. If you having aging off, you can manually choose to have graduation for your teen, but it will not age them up. They will attend in cap and gown if from public or private school or in military dress if from military school. Depending on their grades, graduates have a chance to graduate with honors or be valedictorian.
Academic Aptitude Test: Preparing for University
During the last 3 days as a Teen, Teen Sims will receive a notification that they have the opportunity to go and take an Academic Aptitude Test via the phone or computer.
Education Career: Shaping Future Generations
The Education Overhaul mod updates the Education Career, allowing young adults, adults, and elders to work as K-12 Educators. To advance in this career, Sims will need a degree in fields such as Art History, Economics, Literature & Languages, Physics, History, Biology, Psychology, or custom degrees.
