The Emory University Hospital Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, staffed with board-certified emergency medicine physicians and specialized nursing staff at all times. The department is typically staffed with six to eight Emergency Medicine attending physicians per day, providing double coverage for a significant portion of the day.

The Emergency Department features an 8-bed Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) that provides advanced care for patients requiring extended observation before discharge or admission. The CDU is staffed by associate providers for 12 hours a day, under the direct supervision of attending Emergency Medicine physicians, ensuring continuous monitoring and treatment.

Emory Emergency Medical Service (EEMS)

Emory Emergency Medical Service (EEMS) is a volunteer EMS organization, operated by students, with oversight from Emory’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response. EEMS provides a medical first responder service for emergency medical care to Emory University students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the surrounding community. EEMS operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week during the fall and spring semesters. The response area includes Emory University’s Clifton Campus and the immediate surrounding facilities, businesses, and roads. EEMS operates two quick response vehicles and other operations vehicles. EEMS works in coordination with local EMS and fire departments responding to emergency and 911-based calls in the Emory community. In addition, it provides medical standby services for university events. Emory EMS will be a leader in collegiate EMS systems across the United States, by focusing on delivering quality patient care, providing community and peer education, and by serving the Emory community with distinction.
