Benefits of the EPA Alumni Association: Continuing Your NSP Legacy
The National Ski Patrol (NSP) is the largest winter rescue organization globally, and its alumni network provides a valuable way for former patrollers to stay connected and contribute to the organization's mission. The EPA Alumni Association, in particular, offers a range of benefits that allow members to continue their involvement and support of ski patrolling at various levels. Today, there are over 2,000 alumni and secondary alumni members affiliated with the NSP.
Why Join the EPA Alumni Association?
Joining the EPA Alumni Association allows you to maintain your connection with the NSP and support its work in a meaningful way. Regardless of the scope of involvement, Alumni can contribute to the success of ski patrolling at any level. As an alumni member, you can continue to contribute to your patrol.
Ways to Stay Involved
Alumni membership offers various avenues for continued engagement with the NSP and the ski patrolling community:
- Events and Involvement: Alumni can participate in various events and activities, including courtesy/host patrols, Special Olympics events, Wounded Warrior events, and other NSP-sponsored activities. They can also contribute in administrative capacities, such as serving as a newsletter editor or social director.
- Community Safety Talks: Share your expertise and passion for safety by giving talks to community groups.
- Alumni Days: Participate in special events designed for alumni to reconnect and celebrate their contributions.
- Recruiting: Help identify and encourage potential candidates to join the NSP.
- Instructorships: Even as an alumni member, you can keep your instructorships current and serve as an instructor to local NSP units. This allows you to share your knowledge and experience with the next generation of patrollers.
- Several ski areas have already incorporated alumni patrollers in their operations and taken advantage of their alumni's local knowledge and experience. Alumni often attend ski patrol PR events, help recruit new members, provide administrative help, give safety talks, participate in other community service activities, and are a valued force within NSP.
Benefits of Membership
Beyond the opportunity to stay involved, the EPA Alumni Association offers several tangible benefits:
- Continued Service Years and Member Voting Rights: Maintain your accumulated service years within the NSP and retain your voting rights, allowing you to participate in organizational decisions.
- Subscription to Ski Patrol Magazine: Stay up-to-date on the latest news, trends, and best practices in ski patrolling with a subscription to the NSP's official magazine.
- Access to NSP Winter Catalog Merchandise: As an Alumni Member of the NSP, you will receive access to some NSP Winter Catalog merchandise. While you may not purchase or wear Active NSP uniforms or duty identification, you can purchase other catalog items, including the "ALUMNI" Sweater Pin and Alumni Chest Badge.
- Opportunities to Participate in All NSP-Sponsored Events: Participate in NSP-sponsored events.
- Flexibility to Return to Active Patrolling: You can easily change back and forth from alumni to active patrolling by following patrol requirements.
- Tax Deductible Membership Dues: Your membership dues may be tax deductible.
- Listing on Patrol Roster: You may be listed with your home patrol on their secondary roster.
- Eastern Division & EPA News Letters
- Awards: Certificates of Appreciation from your Patrol, Region or Division: Eastern Division Outstanding Alumni Award
Lifetime Membership
Active NSP patrollers who are lifetime members automatically retain their lifetime status after becoming alumni members. New and continuing alumni members who wish to become lifetime alumni members can do so for a one-time fee that helps support the NSP Endowment Fund. Alumni members with 50 years of continuous service are eligible for a free lifetime membership, which must be verified with the national office.

Staying Informed
The EPA Alumni Program Coordinator aims to keep patrollers informed about this valuable opportunity to continue their service and affiliation with NSP. The Alumni Program offers an opportunity to keep OEC credentials current and continue with their instructorships. As soon as the manual becomes available it will be posted to the EPA, Alumni page. NSP will accept checks from Alumni Members but would prefer members to make electronic payments.
