Pathways Programs

The Pathways Programs are developmental opportunities designed to promote employment for students and recent graduates in the federal workforce. It aims to improve recruiting efforts, offer clear paths to Federal opportunities for students and recent grads from high school to post-graduate school, and provide meaningful training and career development opportunities for new Federal employees. Pathways consists of two programs: Internships and Recent Graduates.

  • Internships: This program is open to current students enrolled in accredited educational institutions, from high school to advanced degree programs.
  • Recent Graduates: This program targets individuals who have completed a qualifying degree or certificate within the past two years. Veterans may have up to six years after degree completion to apply due to military service obligations.

Department of the Interior (DOI) Programs

The DOI partners with national service members to provide special skills training and offer a path into Federal service. Individuals who meet specific requirements may be eligible for noncompetitive appointment to Federal jobs upon successful completion of the program.

  • Public Land Corps (PLC): A work and education program that engages the Nation's conservation and service corps on public lands.
  • Direct Hire Authority for Resource Assistant Internships (DHA-RAI): Rigorous internships in a career field necessary for the effective management of public lands and resources.
  • Youth Conservation Corps (YCC): A federal youth employment program that engages young people in meaningful work experiences at national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and fish hatcheries while developing an ethic of public land stewardship and civic responsibility. YCC programs are generally 8 to 10 weeks and members are paid at least the state or federal minimum wage (whichever is higher) for a 40-hour work week.

  • Logistics Management Intern Program: The Department of the Army (DA) recruits and trains civilians as Logistics Management Specialist Interns, preparing them for a future career as a member of the Army civilian team supporting soldiers throughout the world. This two-year program of professional development is accomplished through formal classroom training and a series of rotational on-the-job training with Department of Defense (DOD) agencies throughout the United States. Training emphasizes transportation, supply, maintenance, financial management, contract negotiations and leadership development.
  • VA Acquisition Intern Program (AIP): An 18-month program to develop future contract specialists, starting at the GS-7 level with career potential to the GS-11 level.
  • Warriors to Workforce (W2W): A 10-month program that offers returning Veterans with little to no post-high school education an opportunity to transition into a new career as a contract specialist.
