Our Approach: Mission and Values
Fern Academy's mission is to provide exceptional education to help children reach their academic and life goals. They strive to foster each child's intellectual, social, physical, and moral development in an academically rich trilingual inclusive environment. To achieve this, they work as a team with students, families, and communities. Trilingual Learning Environment
One of the standout features of Fern Academy is its commitment to trilingual education. The school offers classes in Spanish, English, and Mandarin, providing children with a unique opportunity to develop linguistic skills from a young age. Moreover, the academy extends its language offerings to include sign language, further enriching the learning experience.
Classrooms and Age Groups
Fern Academy caters to children of various age groups, with classrooms structured as follows:
- Pre-Kindergarten: 4-5 Years
- School Age: 6 Years-12 Years

Staff Qualifications and Responsibilities
Fern Academy places a strong emphasis on qualified staff. A fully-qualified teacher is required to have a minimum of 12 core Early Childhood Education college credits/units. Key responsibilities of the staff include:
- Maintaining the ordered arrangement, appearance, and décor of the classroom environment.
- Regularly maintaining displays of student artwork.
Operational Considerations and Compliance
Like all childcare facilities, Fern Academy is subject to regulatory oversight. A specific incident involving diaper changing practices was investigated. The investigation revealed that there were instances where parents declined diaper changes offered by staff, leading to a child developing a diaper rash. While the facility maintains a record of diaper changes in the Brightwheel application, there were discrepancies in the data, specifically missing information for a week in August and an entry showing a diaper change occurring after the child had been signed out. Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation did or did not occur, therefore the allegation is unsubstantiated.
A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted on, or immediately adjacent to, the interior side of the main door for 30 days.Failure to comply with posting requirements shall result in an immediate civil penalty of $100.Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee/Director Linglin He.
Addressing Misconceptions and Ensuring Best Practices
It's important to address some common misconceptions about childcare facilities and highlight the best practices that Fern Academy strives to uphold:
- Misconception: All childcare facilities are the same.
- Reality: Childcare facilities vary greatly in their educational philosophies, staff qualifications, and operational practices. Fern Academy distinguishes itself through its trilingual approach, emphasis on hands-on learning, and commitment to qualified staff.
- Best Practice: Maintaining open communication with parents.
- Fern Academy utilizes the Brightwheel application to keep parents informed about their child's activities and needs, including diaper changes.
- Misconception: Diaper changes are only necessary at set intervals.
- Reality: Children's needs vary, and diaper changes should be done as needed, not just on a fixed schedule. Fern Academy's policy acknowledges this, stating that "there are times where children are observed to need a diaper changed sooner than an hour after the last change, if that occurs, then the diaper is also changed."
- Best Practice: Addressing parental concerns promptly.
- When a parent reported a diaper rash, the issue was addressed by the facility staff.
