Flathead Valley Community College: An Affordable Path to Success
Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC), established in 1967, offers an accessible and affordable path to academic and career success in a stunning natural setting. Located in Kalispell, Montana, in the heart of the Flathead Valley, FVCC provides students with opportunities to explore Glacier National Park, Whitefish Mountain, and countless lakes. FVCC is a public community college founded 59 years ago. Its campus is located in a rural area and has a total enrollment of 2,049 students. The school operates on a semester-based academic year and maintains a student-faculty ratio of 11-to-1, ensuring that class sizes remain personal. The highest degree offered at Flathead Valley Community College is an associate degree. FVCC has an open admissions policy. FVCC does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, religion, creed, disability, marital status, veteran status, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation. The admissions process is based on self-selection. Admission to degree/certificate programs, except for selective programs, shall be open to anyone who has earned a high school diploma from an accredited high school or received a high school equivalency diploma.

In 2015, the college added an AAS degree in Brewing Science and Brewery Operations and has since built an on-campus brewery for student instruction.
Admissions
FVCC has an “open door” policy for those who are 16 years or older. The admissions process is based on self-selection. To be considered for selective program admission, applications must be submitted to the Admissions and Registration Office by the appropriate deadlines. Application deadlines and requirements for admission into selective programs vary by program. Contact the Registrar by calling 406.756.3845 to petition the Admissions and Registration Office for an exception.
Complete the following:
- Provide written permission from parents;
- Complete placement testing and meet with an advisor and have scores evaluated to determine college readiness;
- Submit a non-degree Application for Admission form and provide required immunization records;
- Obtain instructors’ signatures before registering for classes.
Acknowledge the following guidelines:
- A maximum of six credits can be taken the first term;
- Students will be enrolled as “non-degree” status until reaching 16 years of age and successfully completing the GED/HiSET or high school equivalency diploma.
Completed Application for Admission form and required immunization records; GED/HiSET certificate or high school equivalency diploma or proof of completion of FVCC placement tests.

Paying for School
FVCC is committed to providing affordable education. In 2020-2021, the in-district tuition and fees were $5,293, in-state tuition and fees were $6,721, and out-of-state tuition and fees were $12,643. There is no application fee. At Flathead Valley Community College, 43 percent of undergraduates receive grant or scholarship aid and the average scholarship or grant award is $4,149. Student Life and Campus Services
FVCC provides various campus services to support students, including employment services, academic/career counseling, and placement services for completers. At least one staffed computer lab is available to students. A wireless computer network is available throughout the campus. Number of computers available are 230.

Governance
