Navigating Transcript Requests from the Florida Department of Education
The Florida Department of Education plays a crucial role in managing and providing access to educational records, particularly concerning High School Equivalency Diplomas. Understanding the process for requesting transcripts and diplomas is essential for individuals who have earned their GED® in Florida or require verification of their credentials. This article provides a comprehensive guide to navigating the transcript request system managed by the Florida Department of Education.
High School Equivalency Diploma Records
The Florida Department of Education is the official repository for records related to the High School Equivalency Diploma Program. However, the actual diploma and transcript services are handled by Parchment/GED Testing Service on behalf of the department. This partnership ensures a secure and efficient method for individuals to access their credentials.
Ordering Duplicate Diplomas and Transcripts
The process for ordering duplicate diplomas and transcripts depends on when the diploma was earned.

Fees
There is a $20 fee charged for each duplicate transcript or diploma ordered. In addition to an electronic credential, a printed diploma can be ordered in your GED® account at GED.com for $10 plus shipping. After logging in, go to My Scores and select Order Duplicates. You will have a choice of an electronic or printed credential.
Verification of Diplomas
Verifications of Florida’s High School Equivalency Diploma, earned by passing the GED® tests, will only be provided by ordering from Parchment.
Security Measures
The PDF documents provided by Parchment/GED Testing Service are equipped with Blue Ribbon Security. This feature allows for verification each time the document is opened, ensuring the authenticity and integrity of the credentials.
FASTER System for Electronic Transcript Exchange
The Florida Automated System for Transferring Educational Records (FASTER) plays a vital role in the electronic exchange of student records and transcripts. FASTER and SPEEDE/ExPRESS are sets of predefined data formats used by educational institutions to electronically exchange student records and transcripts. According to the Articulation Coordinating Committee, all student transcripts exchanged between Florida public schools, state colleges, state universities, and the Florida Department of Education must be accomplished via FASTER, utilizing the FASTER formats and transmission system.
Intended Use of FASTER
It is important to note that the FASTER System is designed for use by institutions and school districts, and it is not intended for personal use by students. The Florida Department of Education prioritizes the efficient and secure processing of student records.

Student Records and Public Access
The Florida Department of Education does not maintain student records directly. Instead, these records are kept in the school district where the student last attended. While student records are not considered ‘public’ in their entirety, individuals have the right to inspect and/or copy public records. Chapter 119 in the Florida Statutes provides additional information on fees associated with public records requests.
Records of Closed Independent Postsecondary Institutions
The Commission for Independent Education maintains records for some independent postsecondary educational institutions that have closed. For inquiries regarding these records, one can contact 325 W.
Trademarks
It is important to acknowledge that GED® and GED Testing Service® are registered trademarks of the American Council on Education (ACE). These trademarks may not be used or reproduced without the express written permission of ACE or GED Testing Service®.
