Florida State University Canvas Guide: Navigating Your Learning Management System

Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) used at Florida State University (FSU). It serves as a central hub for online learning, providing students and instructors with tools for course management, communication, and content delivery. This guide aims to provide comprehensive information on accessing and utilizing Canvas effectively at FSU.

Accessing Canvas

Canvas is accessible at canvas.fsu.edu. You DO NOT need to create or register for a Canvas account.

Existing Students

Existing students can log in with their existing FSUID and password in Canvas, just like they do in myFSU. It's crucial to remember that you must have registered for the class in myFSU for it to appear in Canvas. Canvas synchronizes with your class schedule Sunday through Friday, updating every few hours between 5 am and 9 pm.

If you have used Canvas's "favorites" option to customize which courses display on your Canvas Dashboard, you might need to navigate to Courses > All Courses to access your course. Remember to adjust your "favorite" courses each term if you are customizing your Dashboard.

Course Visibility

For a course to be visible in Canvas, your instructor must have set up and published a Canvas course site for your section. Some instructors may choose not to use Canvas. If you cannot find your course in Canvas, check with your instructor to find out whether they are planning to use Canvas to share course materials. The instructor must have published the Canvas course to you and your classmates.

You can also watch this series of introduction videos and then consult the Canvas Instructor Guide for more detailed information.
