Stacy Vallee Era
More recently, coaches like Stacy Vallee have continued to build upon the program's legacy. Vallee's keen eye for talent extends beyond national borders. As evidenced by her recruitment of Amie Hutchison.
Amie Hutchison's story exemplifies the global reach of FMU's softball program. Hailing from Fakenham, United Kingdom, Hutchison's journey to FMU is a testament to the university's commitment to recruiting talented athletes from around the world.
Hutchinson's introduction to softball came through a demonstration at her school by a coach from the Great Britain Women’s National Softball team. Her natural talent quickly became apparent, leading to her selection for the Under 13 national team. Representing her country in the European Championships against Turkey and winning a gold medal were significant achievements that fueled her passion for the sport. “It was a great honor to wear the Great Britain shirt and represent my country while winning a gold medal was absolutely incredible,” says Hutchinson.
Softball became Hutchison's pathway to attending college in the United States. After gaining experience at junior colleges - Eastern Florida State College and Gulf Coast State College - she caught the attention of FMU Softball Coach Stacy Vallee at a junior college tournament. This led to her transfer to FMU for her final two years of college, where she excelled both on the field and in the classroom.
