The Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma (OU) stands as a prominent institution dedicated to fostering creativity, innovation, and professionalism in its students. With a rich history and a commitment to evolving with the changing times, the college offers a wide array of programs and resources designed to produce career-ready graduates.
A Legacy of Engineering Excellence
Instruction in professional engineering at the University of Oklahoma began in 1899 with a course in surveying. The following year, the first two years of engineering were presented. A curriculum in civil engineering was established in 1902-03, and a School of Mines was organized. Courses in electrical and mechanical engineering were listed at the same time. In 1904, the engineering courses were organized as a School of Applied Science. The School of Mines and the School of Applied Science were joined and reorganized as the College of Engineering in 1909.
The Gallogly College of Engineering has seen tremendous growth in faculty, reaching nearly 200 total faculty. The faculty is dedicated to excellence in carrying out the University mission of teaching, research and service. The faculty are drawn from many of the nation’s leading universities, including University of California, Georgia Tech, MIT, Rice, and Yale, to name a few. Approximately one in three faculty members in the college hold an endowed chair or professorship, and many hold distinguished university professorships recognizing excellence in areas of faculty responsibility.
Academic Programs and Departments
The Gallogly College of Engineering is organized into schools and programs, each responsible for administering undergraduate and graduate programs of study. The professional subjects in these curricula are supported by courses from other colleges of the University. Within the Gallogly College of Engineering, there are 16 academic programs and more than 40 degree options. The college offers undergraduate and graduate programs across several departments, with accelerated bachelor’s/master’s degree options available. The college also offers a multidisciplinary undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics.
The college now offers degrees in 11 undergraduate engineering fields, as well as computer science and environmental science. The student body includes approximately 3,500 undergraduate students and 1100 graduate students.

Chemical engineers study how to convert low-value raw materials into high-value products by making highly specific chemical changes. They know the chemical nature of materials and predict how chemical changes to the molecular structure of a material will alter its physical properties. Chemical engineers make excellent technical managers because of the wide variety of technical concepts incorporated into undergraduate education, and they are among the best equipped to solve problems such as energy supplies, food and water supplies, environmental contamination, global warming, and health-related issues.

Civil engineering is the oldest of the modern engineering disciplines, with historical roots dating back to the 1700s. The Engineering Physics program prepares students for careers in areas of technology where the disciplines of physics and engineering intersect. About 40% of graduating Engineering Physics majors immediately begin graduate school.

Admissions and Cost
The OU Gallogly College of Engineering uses the same admissions policies for accepting new students into its programs as that of the institution. Students are admitted to the University of Oklahoma using a holistic admissions process. Students transferring to the University of Oklahoma, College of Engineering must have earned a minimum of 24 hours of college credit to be considered for admission. The Office of Admissions conducts all initial assessment of transfer coursework. Major specific transfer coursework will be reviewed by the faculty in the specific discipline for evaluation.
The acceptance rate for Master's and Doctoral programs is 59.2%.
Tuition costs are as follows:
- Full-time: $383 per credit (in-state)
- Full-time: $1,080 per credit (out-of-state)
- Part-time: $383 per credit (in-state)
- Part-time: $1,080 per credit (out-of-state)
Additional fees include $60 for residents and $100 for international students.

Not only is life outside the College filled with joy and enthusiasm, but also the life inside the Gallogly College of Engineering campus is splendid. The institution promotes an inclusive community that helps develop students' leadership, learning, and efficiency to achieve their life goals. The campus provides a collaborative learning experience for the students. The institution helps all students with international and global job and internship opportunities to become more competitive, compassionate, and ethical. The colleges in Puebla, Italy, and France offer study-abroad programmes.
The Gallogly College of Engineering also offers students a well-rounded experience with student organizations and events to bring students together, forming connections to last a lifetime. The Exxon-Mobil Lawrence G. Rawl Engineering Practice Facility is the home for engineering outreach and recruitment and houses our engineering competition teams. The REPF also serves as the hub for student professional and leadership development with the Jerry Holmes Leadership Program for Engineers and Scientists, Career Development for Engineers and Scientists, Sooner Engineering Education Center, Student Life and more than forty student organizations and clubs.
The College conducts a variety of events on the campus. The Fall Fest and the Engineering Job and Internship Fair are two of the best-known events. The Fall Fest welcomes all the new joiners of the College. It helps them grow their engineering network by meeting the academic advisors and connecting with the seniors of the institution. The engineering job and internship fair is also held in the fall.
REPF Competition Teams train and certify college students to build rockets, compete in various national events, and work on projects done individually. A student can participate in multiple teams, like the OU Boomer Rocket Team, Concrete Canoe, OU Design/Build/Fly, Sooner Competitive Robotics, and many others. Other than these, more than forty student organisations are present in the College across multiple departments.
Engineering Pathways (EP)
Engineering Pathways (EP) is a framework to bring cohesive research-informed practices and an ethos of care to nurturing and supporting students along each stage of their journey to becoming engineers. Components of EP provide entry to engineering through educational outreach with preK-12 schools and families and active recruitment of high school students; support students in their transition to college life and along whatever their engineering academic path may be; and ensure students have access to technical and professional development for success in the workplace.
Engineering Catalyst Program
The Engineering Catalyst Program is a two-year support program designed to help students with a drive to succeed in engineering build their academic and professional success as they travel through their curriculum-to-career pathway. Engineering Catalyst is a selective, by-application program designed for students entering engineering in mathematics prerequisites. The number of Scholars admitted is limited to ensure each Scholar receives optimal resources and support for the duration of the two-year program.
Williams Student Services Center
Whether you are a prospective, first-time, continuing or graduating student, the Williams Student Services Center provides centralized support for academic and curricular guidance. Our advising team provides basic information about academic programs and advising, scholarships, student groups, organizations, college support programs, tutoring, mentoring, and graduation. The Gallogly College of Engineering provides students the support of a faculty and college academic advisor related to their discipline. All incoming engineering freshmen are advised by engineering's Williams Student Services Center advisors during the University’s New Sooner Orientation program.
Financial Aid
Oklahoma offers a range of financial aid options for engineering students, including state-funded grants, institutional scholarships, and need-based assistance.
- Oklahoma's Promise - A state-funded program that covers tuition for eligible students from families with income below a certain threshold.
- Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant (OTAG) - Provides need-based grants to eligible Oklahoma residents attending approved institutions within the state.
- University of Oklahoma (OU) - The Gallogly College of Engineering offers various scholarships for incoming and current students. Notably, the First Year Engineering Scholarship is available to students who apply for admission by December 15.
- Oklahoma State University (OSU) - The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) provides multiple scholarships, including the CEAT Scholars Program, which offers packages ranging from $29,000 to $69,000 over four years.
