Semester-Based Academic Calendar
Gannon University operates on a semester-based academic calendar. Typically, the fall semester begins in late August, while the spring semester commences in January.
Key Dates and Deadlines
Understanding the academic calendar is crucial for students to stay on track with their studies. Below are some key dates and deadlines to keep in mind:
Enrollment and Registration
- Confirmation of Enrollment: Students must confirm their enrollment with the Cashier's Office by the specified deadline to avoid late fees. For example, Wednesday, the 16th is the last day to confirm enrollment with the Cashier’s Office for the fall semester without a late fee.
- Registration for Classes: Senior citizens have designated registration periods for fall classes. Students and transient students can register starting March 11. Students who choose not to register on self-service can come to the Registrar's Office to register. You should fill out the registration form with your choice of courses and have it signed by your advisor.
Tuition and Fees
- Tuition Bills Due: Tuition bills are due before the first day of the summer session for which the student is registered. Gannon's official billing method is available exclusively on self-service. It allows individuals and their authorized users to view semester statements and make payment online. If you register during the week prior to the start date of a session, payment must be submitted along with your registration.
- Payment Deadlines: Students who have not paid their bill by the designated deadline may be de-registered. For instance, on January 15, students who have not paid their bill will be de-registered after 4:00 PM.
Add/Drop and Withdrawal Policies
- Add/Drop Period: Students have a limited time frame to add or drop courses. After this period, written approval from an advisor or instructor may be required. For example, January 16 is the last day to add/drop courses without advisor's written approval and the last day to add courses without instructor's written approval.
- Tuition Refunds for Dropped Courses: Gannon University offers a tuition refund schedule for students who drop courses within a specified timeframe.
- A 100% tuition and fee refund is available for dropped courses during the initial add/drop period. For example, from January 12 to January 16, a 100% tuition and fee refund is available for dropped courses. This includes 7 week, 9 week, and 14 week courses.
- The refund percentage decreases as the semester progresses. For example, an 80% tuition refund is available from January 17 to January 24.
- After a certain point, no tuition refund is provided for dropped courses. For example, a 40% tuition refund is available on February 6, with 0% fee refund.
- Course Withdrawal: Students can withdraw from a course by a specific deadline. For example, March 23 is the last day to: a) withdraw from a course; b) elect pass-fail; c) revert to a letter grade for courses being taken pass-fail. Consult the Dean regarding pass-fail.
- Transcript Notation: Dropped courses are removed from the transcript if dropped by a specific date. For example, January 23 is the last day dropped courses are removed from transcript.
