Online Technician Certificate Programs

George Brown College offers certificate distance education programs in Automation, Electronics, Electromechanical, Robotics, PLC and PLC II, designed to provide students with a complete technical introduction to these subjects. The cornerstone of these programs is the simulation software, which is fully integrated within the learning material and bridges the gap between theoretical and practical usage. The goal of these Online Technician certificate programs is to provide students with the practical know how and technical skills needed to become more employable and successful in their fields. Since the 1995 launch of the Electronics Technician program, right up to the recent launch of the PLC Technician II program, over 12,000 students have enrolled in these programs.

Campus Locations and Facilities

George Brown College has three main campuses - Casa Loma, St. James, and Waterfront - all easily accessible by public transit and surrounded by bike lanes as part of Toronto’s cycling network.

Casa Loma Campus

The Casa Loma campus is situated on Kendal Ave., near Casa Loma and the City of Toronto Archives. In 2004, the old A building was torn down and replaced with a green space due to health concerns.

St. James Campus

The St. James campus comprises five buildings, including the large brick building at 200 King St. E. and the connected buildings at 290 and 300 Adelaide St. East, home to Financial Services, Creative Arts, Business Administration, and the Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts.

Waterfront Campus

The Waterfront Campus, opened in September 2012, is located at 51 Dockside Dr. and houses the Centre for Health Sciences. In 2019, the campus expanded to the Daniels Waterfront - City of the Arts complex at 3 Lower Jarvis St., home to the School of Design. The latest expansion, Limberlost Place, officially opened at 185 Queens Quay E. in 2025 and houses the School of Architectural Studies.

Other Facilities

The Sally Horsfall Eaton building (SHE building) at Toronto Metropolitan University serves as an associate campus. George Brown’s student residence, The George, opened in 2016 at 80 Cooperage St. and houses the Lucie and Thornton Blackburn Conference Centre. The facility is named after a wife and husband who escaped slavery and established Toronto’s first cab company, helped found the Little Trinity Anglican Church and worked on anti-slavery initiatives.

The college offers research assistance, subject guides, and useful resources compiled by librarians. Students can book spaces in Library and Learning Commons at all campuses and access a wide variety of databases and catalogues online or for borrowing. Your GBC student card identifies you as a George Brown student and gives you access to many college services and facilities. Students, faculty, and staff have access to an extensive range of electronic resources including, ebooks, articles, and image databases.

Medical Services

Counselling is free and confidential, available for currently registered George Brown College students. You’re welcome to explore any academic and non-academic issues because they all affect your success. The counselling office provides responsive services - same-day appointments are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Workshops and counselling groups are free

Athletics and Recreation: Varsity sports, fitness centres and classes, drop-in sports and organized leagues. A variety of drop-in sports activities are offered in our gymnasiums during designated open gym times including soccer, basketball, cricket, badminton, floorball, volleyball and others. Note that athletic footwear must be worn in the gymnasium at all times, boots are not permitted.
Enactus George Brown: A volunteer entrepreneurial group that strives to improve local communities. We are a group of students who believe, through entrepreneurship actions, our mission is to change lives and shape a better, more sustainable community. With the support from peers, faculty advisors, and industry professionals, George Brown College Enactus members will be able to gain the real-world entrepreneurial experience, give back to the community, and develop their interpersonal skills.
Peerconnect: A student support service that runs activities, events, wellness initiatives, and workshops.
Student Clubs: More than 50 clubs based on field of study, personal interests, and social movements.
Student Leadership Academy (SLA): A student group that provides leadership training and volunteer opportunities.
Student Association of George Brown College (SAGBC): A student organization - with an elected board of directors - that provides services and runs events. SA Recreational Networks is a series of activities and programming that is focused on the overall well-being of GBC students outside the classroom. The benefits of joining a Student-Led Recreation Network is the opportunity to develop leadership and soft skills such as communication and teamwork.

Student Newspaper

The Dialog is a student newspaper at George Brown Polytechnic and a member of Canadian University Press. It is owned and operated by the Student Association of George Brown Polytechnic. Founded in 1974, The Dialog serves students on three downtown campuses and several satellite campuses as a bi-weekly paper focusing on news within the college. It is printed in tabloid format.
