Navigating Georgetown: Shuttle Routes, Public Transit, and More

Georgetown University, situated in a historic Washington, D.C. neighborhood, offers a variety of transportation options to navigate the campus and the city. These options include a free university shuttle, public transit, biking, and rideshares. The university's location also provides convenient access to three airports for travel.

Getting Around Georgetown

University Shuttle

Shuttle routes and timetables can be viewed on the shuttles page. Georgetown University provides a free shuttle service for students, faculty, and staff. The shuttle service helps in navigating between different points on campus and nearby locations.

Public Transportation

Georgetown University is accessible by public transit, including Metrobus, Metrorail, and the DC Circulator bus.

  • Metrobus: Metrobus line timetables and routes are available online. Several public buses service the Capitol Campus. The D20 and D2X buses (formerly X2 and X9) stop at North Capitol & H St. The D30 bus (formerly 80) stops at North Capitol and H St. NW and provides service to Brookland-CUA Station, Union Station, and Judiciary Square Station via 12th Street NE, Michigan Avenue NE, Federal Triangle, and L’Enfant Plaza. Metrobus fares start at $2 and are paid with cash, a SmarTrip® card, or a virtual SmartTrip card on your mobile device upon boarding. Daily, weekly, and monthly discounted bus passes are available as well. If using more than one bus to reach the destination, use a SmarTrip® card to receive a free bus-to-bus transfer within a two-hour period.
  • Metrorail: Union Station (Red Line) is a 7-minute walk, with entry at 1st St. NE & G St. Gallery Place-Chinatown (Red, Green, Yellow) is a 14-minute walk. Fares are paid with a SmarTrip® card or a virtual SmartTrip card on your mobile device. Daily, weekly, and monthly discounted passes are available as well. Buy SmarTrip® cards online, at any Metrorail station, or at many convenient locations.
  • DC Circulator: DC Circulator line timetables and routes are available online.

Biking

Just outside the gates is a Capital Bikeshare, a bike borrowing service with more than 500 stations and 4,300 bikes in the area. Our campus is a short scenic walk from the DC Metro, which can transport you almost anywhere in the city.

Parking at 111 Massachusetts Avenue NW

111 Massachusetts Avenue NW has a large parking garage underneath the building, accessible to Georgetown University faculty, staff, students, and invited guests. is on the south side of H Street, between 2nd Street and New Jersey Avenue NW. Existing monthly parkers have been added to the License Plate Recognition parking management system. Those interested in signing up for monthly parking at 111 Mass. Ave. Parking Onsite Support: During the month of September, for questions related to parking at 111 Mass. Ave. or to return equipment/hangtags, please visit an OTM representative in the lobby of 111 Mass. Ave. Please check back in early September for updates on parking at 111 Mass.
