Georgetown University Student Health Services: A Comprehensive Guide
Georgetown University prioritizes the health and well-being of its students. The Student Health Center, operated by MedStar Health, provides a range of services to support students' physical and mental health, ensuring they can maximize their educational experience and thrive during their time at the university. This article offers a detailed overview of the services available, how to access them, and important information for students on both the Hilltop and Capitol campuses.
Overview of Services
The Student Health Center is dedicated to keeping you healthy. It offers a variety of services designed to address both physical and mental health needs. These include routine medical care, mental health support, and resources for urgent and emergency situations.
Mental Health Services at CAPS
Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) offers mental health support to students. Given the high demand for services, CAPS uses clinical judgment to determine whether students are best matched with services within their office or with other resources on campus or in the community. Community referrals are appropriate when long-term care is needed or when the nature of the needed services goes beyond the scope of what CAPS can offer.

After-Hours Care
For urgent health concerns after hours and during holiday closures, students can call the page operator at 202-444-7243 and ask for the Student Health Center provider on call. Please do not use the after-hours provider line for non-urgent medical concerns.
Emergency Care
Medical Emergencies
If you are having a medical emergency, please call 911 or the Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service (GERMS) at (202) 687-4357. Currently, GERMS only serves the Hilltop/Main campus and neighborhoods close by them. If on the Capitol Campus, please dial 911.
Mental Health Emergencies
For after-hours CAPS emergencies, call the CAPS main office number, (202) 687-6985, where a menu of options can direct you to the emergency consultation line. To be connected to a trained behavioral specialist who will provide problem-solving support to help you manage your emergency, call (202) 687-6985. Please use the same number after hours. If you are experiencing an immediate life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to your local emergency room.
Telehealth and eVisits
Teletherapy
With few exceptions, the law requires that to do teletherapy, a provider must be licensed in the state where they practice as well as the state where the client is located. This also applies to international teletherapy. As a result, CAPS clinicians may not be able to provide teletherapy services to students residing outside the DC area.
MedStar eVisits
MedStar eVisits are available for telehealth visits for non-life-threatening conditions. Download the MedStar eVisit app on your phone and follow the instructions to secure an appointment. Since the Student Health Center is a MedStar clinic, any appointments with the MedStar Emergency Departments, Urgent Cares, or eVisits are seamlessly integrated into our electronic medical record to ensure excellent continuity of care.
