Georgia Hunter Education: Requirements and Options for Safe Hunting
Hunting in Georgia is a popular pastime, but it's important to understand the requirements for hunter education to ensure safety and compliance with the law. This article provides a comprehensive overview of Georgia's hunter education requirements, course options, and related information for both residents and non-residents.
Who Needs Hunter Education in Georgia?
Georgia law states that any person born on or after January 1, 1961, must complete a hunter education course approved by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) before they can purchase a hunting license. This requirement applies to both residents and non-residents.
There are a few exceptions to this rule:
- Hunters under 12 years old do not have to take the course but must be directly supervised by a licensed adult while hunting.
- Hunters aged 12 to 15 can hunt alone only if they have completed the course and carry their certification card.
- Hunter Education is not required to hunt on one's own land or land of a parent or guardian.
