Glasgow Clyde College: A Hub for Further and Higher Education

Glasgow Clyde College stands as a prominent institution for further and higher education in the vibrant city of Glasgow, Scotland. Formed in August 2013 through the amalgamation of Anniesland College, Cardonald College, and Langside College, it operates across three distinct campuses: Anniesland, Cardonald, and Langside. A Multi-Campus College

Glasgow Clyde College is a multi-campus college with three sites in Anniesland, Cardonald and Langside. Each campus retains its unique character while contributing to the overall mission of the college.

Anniesland Campus

Anniesland Campus, formerly Anniesland College, is situated in the Claythorn neighborhood of western Glasgow, nestled between Anniesland, Kelvindale, and Gartnavel General Hospital. Its location is conveniently one block south of Great Western Road (A82) and Anniesland railway station. The campus boasts seven schools, delivering a diverse array of courses and levels of study, available on a full-time, part-time, or flexible basis.

Cardonald Campus

Cardonald Campus, previously Cardonald College, is located in the South Cardonald area, near Mosspark, and enjoys proximity to Corkerhill railway station. Cardonald College officially opened in 1972 and underwent refurbishment in the late 2000s.

Langside Campus

Langside Campus annually welcomes over 5,000 students, with a significant number hailing from countries outside the European Union. Phase 1 of a newly constructed main campus was inaugurated in May 2009, followed by Phase 2 in August 2010, which incorporated new sport, music, and drama facilities.

Courses and Learning Opportunities

Glasgow Clyde College offers a wide range of courses across its campuses, catering to diverse interests and career aspirations. The college has 7 schools, offering a range of courses and levels of study, full-time, part-time or flexibly.

Lifelong Learning Course

The Lifelong Learning course provides learning opportunities for adults who need additional support for learning and aims to support personal development.

Each subject in the Lifelong Learning course helps you to develop your knowledge and skills and, where possible, to become involved in related practical activities. Teaching takes place in informal small groups. The college aims to offer places to those most able to learn effectively with others.

Cardonald Campus: Creative Hub / Volunteering

At the Cardonald Campus, the Lifelong Learning course focuses on creative and practical skills, including:

  • Learning to use materials to create items for sale.
  • Learning new techniques to create craft items.

Students also have the opportunity to volunteer in the college shop.

Langside Campus: Creative Media

At the Langside Campus, the Lifelong Learning course centers around creative media. During the course, students will:

  • Watch and listen to examples of media, like TV shows, adverts, songs, podcasts, and videos.
  • Look over stories and articles from newspapers and magazines.
  • Learn how to make their own media, like drawing a comic, making a poster / advert, recording a short video, or creating a simple podcast.
  • Talk about how media can make people feel happy, excited, or even help them learn new things.

Challenges and Financial Constraints

In June 2019, Glasgow Clyde College officials revealed that the college was required to absorb an additional £1 million of costs in the year ahead without any additional Government funding, "due to issues and decisions outside of the college's control".
