Gonzaga's Enduring Legacy in the NCAA Tournament
Earning a berth in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament is a challenging feat. Since the NCAA Tournament began in 1939, only five Division I programs have consistently secured their place in the field for 20 or more consecutive years. Among these programs, Gonzaga has cemented its position as a perennial contender.
A Streak of Dominance: 26 Years and Counting
The Gonzaga men’s basketball team is heading to the NCAA Tournament after winning the West Coast Conference. The Bulldogs are currently 26-8 overall and on a four-game winning streak. The Bulldogs have reached the tournament in 26 straight seasons since 1999. Gonzaga extended its NCAA Division I record for consecutive seasons with 25 or more wins to 17.
The Mark Few Era: From Assistant to Architect
The Zags’ impressive NCAA Tournament streak started in 1999, when Mark Few was an assistant to Dan Monson. That team won 28 games and reached the Elite Eight. Monson then departed for Minnesota, and Few stepped into the head coach position, elevating the program and establishing Gonzaga as a prominent force on the national stage. Few has been Gonzaga’s head coach since 1999.
Tournament Success and Milestones
Gonzaga has reached the Sweet 16 14 times and has appeared in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament twice. Gonzaga has reached the NCAA basketball national championship game two times, going 0-2 in those games.
2025 NCAA Tournament: A New Chapter
Gonzaga will meet Georgia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. GU is making its 26th consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance and 27th overall. Gonzaga is the eight seed, for the third time in program history, in the Midwest Region. Gonzaga is one of only two teams to win its opening-round NCAA Tournament game each of the last 15 tournaments, Kansas is the other at 17. The Bulldogs have the most wins in the NCAA Tournament since 2017, going 22-7, Kansas is next at 17-6.

Individual Accolades and Team Achievements
Nolan Hickman, Graham Ike, and Ryan Nembhard were named First Team All-West Coast Conference. Nembhard became the 51st player in NCAA Div. I history to eclipse 300 assists in a single season. His 325 assists are first in the nation, to only 76 turnovers. He broke his own single season assist program record. Nembhard's 9.8 assists per game also tops the country. His 4.28 assist-to-turnover ratio is second. As a team, the Zags are first in the nation in assists per game at 19.7 and assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.09. Khalif Battle is third in the nation from the free-throw line at 92.9 percent (1st in WCC).
