The university's consistent rankings in U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review highlight its strengths in undergraduate teaching, innovation, and student satisfaction.

Gonzaga's Position in National University Rankings

In the 2026 edition of U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges, Gonzaga University secured the No. 102 spot among National Universities. This category includes 435 schools, ranging from elite private universities to large state research institutions, evaluated based on criteria established by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Focus on Undergraduate Teaching

Gonzaga's commitment to providing a high-quality learning experience is reflected in its No. 17 ranking in Best Undergraduate Teaching by U.S. News & World Report. This significant jump of 39 spots from the previous year underscores the dedication of Gonzaga’s faculty to educating and serving students throughout their academic journeys. President Thayne McCulloh noted that the faculty and staff of Gonzaga are dedicated to excellence in teaching, learning, and scholarship across the university’s programs, and at all levels. The university's outstanding outcomes are influenced by a 12-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. More than 42% of all class sections have fewer than 20 students, and only 1% of Gonzaga’s classes are larger than 50 students in size.

Commitment to Innovation and Adaptability

Gonzaga's recognition as one of the "Most Innovative National Universities" by U.S. News & World Report highlights its focus on preparing students to thrive in a dynamic, interconnected global society. This recognition affirms Gonzaga’s focus on preparing students to thrive as leaders in a dynamic, interconnected global society. According to Gonzaga President Katia Passerini, every field is seeing incredibly rapid change, and the world our graduates are inheriting requires thoughtful and creative thinking. Gonzaga has also added and enhanced academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including in areas such as data science, cybersecurity, public health and neuroscience. The Strategic Plan includes greatly expanded academic offerings with new and updated options that meet them where they are. Examples include: new graduate programs in business analytics, data science and cybersecurity; an online MBA; and new undergraduate degrees in public health, biomedical engineering, and neuroscience (slated to start in fall of 2024).

Emphasis on Service Learning and Community Engagement

Service to others is inherent to a Gonzaga education and to the University mission. Gonzaga's commitment to service learning is evident in its consistent presence in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, moving from No. 21 last year to No. 18 in the new rankings. The University’s regular presence in the Service Learning rankings is a testament in particular to the work of the Center for Community Engagement. Students across academic disciplines embrace the idea of serving others when they choose to come to Gonzaga, and are always impressed with their willingness to continue engaging in service as part of their college experience. Beyond cheering for the men’s and women’s Zags teams and participating in intramurals, the student survey respondents lauded Gonzaga as one of the schools “most engaged in community service” (No. 14 in the country).

The Princeton Review Recognition

Amid the sea of college rankings vying to guide prospective students toward their ideal campus, the annual Princeton Review list stands out. Unlike many others, it draws its insights straight from the source - surveys filled out by the students who actually live, learn, and experience life at the schools. Princeton Review’s “Best Colleges” book has been published annually since 1992, and this year’s version is based on surveys of 170,000 students at nearly 2,000 colleges and universities. "The colleges we profile in our 'Best Colleges' book are a truly select group. They constitute only about 15% of America's nearly 2,400 four-year institutions" said Rob Franek, Editor-in-Chief of The Princeton Review and the book's lead author. "While they vary by locale, type, size, and campus culture, each one offers its students an academically outstanding undergraduate education.
