Additional Academic Policies and Information

Course Auditing

You may audit a course that you have not previously taken and have the audit recorded on the official transcript as "AUD." The course will not carry any earned credit. It will not satisfy any degree requirements, nor will it count towards your official enrollment status. Tuition and fees are assessed at the regular rate. Grading Conditions for the audit are negotiated by the student and the instructor. At the end of the semester, the instructor will enter an AUD to signify you have satisfactorily completed the audit and it will be so noted on the transcript. If you do not earn the audit, the instructor will enter the grade of NAU - Audit not completed.

GPA Calculation

Multiply the credit hours by the grade GPA points (using the chart above) for each course. Cumulative GPA is calculated based on all UMass Boston grades. Term GPA is calculated based on grades in a given semester.

Latin Honors

Latin Honors are awarded only to undergraduate students that have graduated. At least 12 credits with a GPA of 3.5 or above and no grades below a C. At least 9 credits with a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Course Withdrawal

Students have until approximately 2/3 through any academic session to withdraw from selected classes. Withdrawal results in a class grade of "W" (which carries no weight in GPA calculations). Students who wish to withdraw from individual classes, but do not meet the deadline, may request a waiver. Usually, this deadline is the same for declaring change of grading basis in any class that allows this option ( more waiver information). Students may request retroactive withdrawals from classes after the semester has ended, but the request must be for all classes in that semester. We will consider requests to withdraw from selected classes after the deadline has passed (either in-semester or in prior semesters), but students are advised that we can grant such requests only in rare cases. In fall and spring semesters (but not in summer and winter), students may formally withdraw from all their classes at once through the University Advising Center until the last day of classes. Students are strongly urged to consult with the Undergraduate Studies Coordinator, Steve Ward, (withdrawals) or Rose Mooney (changes of grading basis) who will make an initial assessment and will offer advice. Note: If you have earned less than 24 transferable college credits, you must additionally submit your official high-school transcript.

Readmission After Withdrawal

If a student with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 voluntarily withdraws, his eligibility to enroll in future courses is not automatic and is subject to approval by the readmitting authority of the studentâs college, who may set conditions on the studentâs schedule. Students must apply for readmission by their college deadline.

Repeating a Course

Repeating a course does not retro-actively change academic standing.
