The acceptance rate is a primary indicator of a university's selectivity. WVU's acceptance rate is 77.8%, indicating that the university is lightly selective. This means that a significant proportion of applicants are admitted, provided they meet the expected academic standards.

GPA Requirements for WVU

The GPA requirement is a critical factor in WVU's admissions process. While there isn't a strict GPA cutoff, WVU requires applicants to be above average in their high school class. The average GPA at WVU is 3.72. To have a strong chance of admission, students should aim for a mix of A's and B's, with more A's than B's.

Compensating for a Lower GPA

If a student's GPA is below the average of 3.72, there are strategies to compensate:

Retaking the ACT: Students have absolute control over which ACT tests they send to colleges, meaning they can take the test multiple times and only submit their highest score. To aim for the school's ACT requirement of 20 and above, students should try to take the ACT as many times as they can.

Test-Optional Considerations

In place of test scores, emphasis will be placed on the following for test optional applicants: cumulative and core GPA, meeting academic requirements, rigor of high school curriculum, college preparatory coursework, and intended major. Whether applying regular admission or test optional, students have until August 1 to submit updated academic credentials, including test scores and transcripts, for merit scholarship eligibility.

Application Process and Deadlines

Applications are processed beginning August 15 for admission the following fall. WVU has a rolling admissions policy, and there is no official application deadline.
