In general, the Heights are a gathering place for first-year students who can often be found in one of the renovated lounges, watching television, playing ping-pong, and/or sharing a pizza.

The Midway neighborhood where Hamline is located is a diversified and lively part of St. Paul, which provides students with plenty of opportunities to explore the city. This means that while the campus itself is close-knit and offers a traditional college experience, students also benefit from the resources available in a larger city.
