Understanding Hanover College Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid
Hanover College, founded in 1827, is committed to making college affordable and sustainable for undergraduate students. The college adheres to the principles and standards of The College Cost Transparency Initiative, offering various aid options to meet individual student needs. This article provides a detailed breakdown of the costs associated with attending Hanover College and the financial aid opportunities available to students.
Cost of Attendance
Understanding the cost of attendance is the first step in managing college expenses. The "Cost of Attendance" is the total amount of money the average student has to pay, without any financial aid. It's essentially the school's sticker price.
For undergraduate students, Hanover College's tuition for full-time students stands at $41,092 per year. The accompanying fees amount to $891. Room and board costs at Hanover College total $14,660 annually, including a room charge of $7,034 and a board charge of $7,626. This cost doesn't include books and supplies, personal expenses, and transportation, which are estimated separately. The sticker price includes both tuition and fees. Fees differ by institution and may fund library services, student gym facilities, student centers, technology resources, and campus health centers. As you’re comparing costs of different institutions, also consider the total cost and the net price. The total cost is the sticker price, plus the cost of food and housing, books and supplies, and transportation and personal expenses.
Here's a breakdown of the annual charges and estimated expenses for the 2025-2026 academic year:
Annual Charges:
- Tuition: \$46,232 (Your rate is locked for four years!)
- Food (meal plan): \$7,774 (This is the cost of any meal plan we offer. May change slightly based on the final dining vendor contract.)

For purposes of calculating total cost of attendance and aid eligibility, commuters are allocated a reduced amount for housing (\$5,500) and food (\$5,550).)
Estimated Expenses:
- Parking: \$110 (Charged only if you plan to keep a car on campus.)
- Course-Specific Costs: \$0-\$750 (Depending on your course selection, there may be lab fees, certification or testing requirements.)

Financial Aid Opportunities
Hanover College is committed to offering financial aid to students. Financial aid can include grants, loans, scholarships and work-study jobs. Financial aid packages vary depending on your financial need. Most colleges determine financial need based on your FAFSA.
Grants and Scholarships
Grants and scholarships are the most important forms of financial aid because students don’t have to pay them back. Grants and scholarships are better than loans because students don’t ever have to pay them back. Need-based self-help aid includes federal loans and work-study. Merit-based aid, also called non-need-based aid, is awarded for a specific talent or athletic or academic achievement.
Hanover College is focusing on grants and scholarships first because they’re the most important forms of financial aid. The grant dollar amounts include aid from all sources - both federal and institutional.

Loans
Aside from grants, the other major way to pay for college is with student loans. The more student loan money you borrow, the more debt you’ll end up with after graduation. Ideally, you want to minimize your student debt as much as possible. It’s generally a bad sign if a school has many students taking out a lot of loans.
The median federal loan debt among borrowers who completed their undergraduate degree is \$25,250. The median monthly federal loan payment (if it were repaid over 10 years at 5.05% interest) for student federal loan borrowers who graduated is \$268.
At Hanover College, 70% of all students take out federal loans. The average annual federal loan amount is \$5944. 26% of students take out private loans. The average private loan amount at Hanover College is \$5253. The percentage of students getting federal loans is greater than those getting private loans, which is a good sign.
