Unveiling the Harvey Mudd Presidential Scholarship: A Comprehensive Guide

Harvey Mudd College distinguishes itself as a premier institution in the United States, particularly renowned for its emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). A cornerstone of its commitment to academic excellence and inclusivity is the President’s Scholars Program (PSP). This article delves into the specifics of the Harvey Mudd Presidential Scholarship, outlining its purpose, eligibility criteria, application process, and other crucial details for prospective students.

Understanding the President’s Scholars Program

The President’s Scholars Program (PSP) at Harvey Mudd College is a highly selective, merit-based scholarship program designed to attract and support exceptional students with the potential to become future leaders in STEM fields. The program especially encourages applications from individuals from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented at Harvey Mudd College, as well as those who are the first in their families to attend college.

Scholarship Amount and Benefits

Each incoming first-year President’s Scholar receives a full-tuition scholarship to Harvey Mudd, renewable for four years, contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic progress. It is important to note that President’s Scholars Program award recipients are ineligible for the Harvey S.

Eligibility Criteria for the Presidential Scholarship

To be considered for the Harvey Mudd Presidential Scholarship, candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements:

Additional Information for PSP Finalists

For students who are not local to Southern California, you’ll need to arrive by Friday night. We will only accommodate Saturday flights that arrive in time prior to the start of the President’s Scholars Program on Saturday, April 5th (if this is not the case we will ask you to travel earlier). Our program is set to begin at 11:00 am on Saturday. PSP Finalists and guardians are responsible for arranging travel transportation to and from the home airport. For students arriving on Friday night, we will connect you with a Mudder who will host you in their dorm/common living areas. We do not provide beds, linens, etc., so you must bring your own sleeping bag, toiletries, towels etc.

Merit-Based Scholarships at Harvey Mudd College

When you apply for admission to Harvey Mudd as a first-year student, you may be considered for our merit-based scholarships. These awards recognize outstanding academic achievement and encourage the best and the brightest to join the Harvey Mudd community. Harvey S. Scholarships based upon merit are offered to first-year students by the Harvey Mudd Office of Admission. These awards are granted independent of financial need. If you receive a merit-based scholarship and are also eligible for need-based aid, your merit-based scholarship will be included in the aid provided to meet your financial need.

The Importance of the Statement of Purpose

The Statement of Purpose is a critical component of the PSP application. Harvey Mudd College’s mission statement asks our students to consider the impact of their work on society. We also practice collaboration and value working across differences. Imagine that you have unlimited resources; what impact would you like to make? Scholarship applications are read alongside your first-year application and not separately. Therefore, you can assume that the scholarship reader will have also read your other essays.
