This practical experience allows interns to function as Health Education Specialists in diverse settings such as community/public health organizations, worksite health promotion programs, or clinical/wellness centers.

Goals and Responsibilities

The internship is designed as a time of service and innovation to the supervising agency and a significant learning opportunity for the intern. It emphasizes the application of knowledge, ideas, and skills in a realistic work setting. The internship goals and assigned duties will be communicated to the HEB Internship Coordinator via the Internship Application (due the semester before the internship in HSC4800). The student-centered internship goals and duties are determined by the student and agency supervisor and will be based on the strengths, needs and interests of the student and the agency.

Alignment with Health Education Competencies

The internship aligns with the Eight Areas of Responsibility that define the role of a health education specialist. These responsibilities form the basis of the CHES® exam and the HEB undergraduate curriculum.

Internship Settings

The internship experience includes agencies that employ health education specialists in community/public health, worksite health promotion, or clinical/wellness settings. The Department of Health Education and Behavior has agreements with over 200 internship sites.
