Field-Based Summer Assignments
During the summer months, Hilcorp employs full-time college students to help with a variety of projects at its field locations. These students are the children or other legal dependents of Hilcorp employees who are interested in a temporary field-based summer assignment. These opportunities provide students with exposure to key positions in Hilcorp's operations.
Part-Time Job Opportunities
Hilcorp offers ongoing part-time job opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students in areas including Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance and Accounting, and Land Administration.
Partnerships for Corporate Change
Hilcorp partners with programs like the University of St. Thomas Rising Star Program and the Cristo Rey Jesuit’s Corporate Work-Study Program to foster corporate change. By investing in these programs, Hilcorp supports the development of a diverse workforce and provides career and technical training for the next generation. These programs offset the students’ education costs and also provides students with valuable work experience before attending college.
Field Internship Experiences
Freshman field interns will be exposed to daily field operations as well as facility construction, workover rig operations, drilling rig operations, and coiled tubing operations. Sophomore students will be exposed to the same operations but will also work on and present an engineering project for the second half of the summer that can range from optimizing facilities to optimizing and implementing secondary recovery equipment. At the completion of the internship, students will have a better understanding of oilfield fluid types, processing, and handling; artificial lift methods, the importance of volumes and pressures, and the production path from reservoir to sales. This understanding will yield a distinct advantage in their petroleum classes.
Office Internship Experiences
Junior level students and above will be eligible for a Houston office internship working with one of Hilcorp's asset teams. Office interns will conduct reservoir studies that will include analyzing well logs, working with a geologist to draft structure and net pay maps, managing pressure and production databases, and analyzing that data to quantify the oil and gas reserves of the project. Interns will also evaluate the economics of projects, research well files, create wellbore diagrams, and work with operations to create the workover procedure for the project they work on. The internship will include presentations throughout the summer to management for project approvals as needed. Past intern projects have included single field studies, recomplete proposals, and drillwells. Interns then oversee the approved project in the field if possible.
