Bo Nix: From Auburn Standout to NFL Quarterback
William V. "Bo" Chapman Nix, born on February 25, 2000, is an American professional football quarterback currently playing for the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL). His journey to the NFL was marked by significant achievements and transitions throughout his college career.
Early Life and High School Career
Bo Nix was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and later established himself as a football prodigy in Alabama. He played under his father, Patrick Nix, at Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama, amassing over 12,000 total offensive yards and 161 touchdowns. Before Pinson Valley, Nix showcased his talent at Scottsboro High School in Scottsboro, Alabama, where he passed for 3,463 yards and threw 40 touchdown passes. His exceptional performance led him to be named Alabama's Mr. Football in 2018.
College Career
Nix's college career began with the Auburn Tigers, where he was a three-year starting quarterback from 2019 to 2021. He then transferred to the University of Oregon for his final two seasons.
Auburn Tigers (2019-2021)
Bo Nix made an immediate impact at Auburn, becoming the first true freshman quarterback to start a season opener for the Tigers since 1946. In his freshman year, he passed for 2,542 yards and 16 touchdowns, setting Auburn freshman records. He also added 313 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. His performance earned him the SEC Freshman of the Year award.
In 2019, Nix led Auburn to a 9-4 record, including a dramatic 27-21 victory over No. 11 Oregon, where he threw the game-winning touchdown pass with just nine seconds remaining. He also guided the Tigers to a memorable Iron Bowl win against No. 5 Alabama.

His sophomore season in 2020 saw him voted as a team captain. He completed 16-27 passes for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns against Kentucky. He also had a 91-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Schwartz against LSU, the third-longest in Auburn history.
The 2021 season was marked by inconsistency. Despite leading Auburn to their first win at LSU since 1999 and a victory over No. 10 Ole Miss, Nix also faced struggles and was benched in certain games. His season was cut short due to a broken ankle suffered in a game against Mississippi State. He concluded his Auburn career with three consecutive bowl appearances: the 2020 Outback Bowl, the 2021 Citrus Bowl, and the 2021 Birmingham Bowl.
Oregon Ducks (2022-2023)
In December 2021, Nix entered the transfer portal and subsequently joined the Oregon Ducks. This move provided him with a fresh start and an opportunity to further develop his skills. He cited a desire for more freedom in the offense as a key reason for his transfer.
In his first season with the Ducks in 2022, Nix led Oregon to a 10-3 record, including ranked victories over BYU, UCLA, and Utah. The season culminated in a 28-27 win over North Carolina in the Holiday Bowl. Nix finished the season with 3,593 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions, adding 510 rushing yards and fourteen rushing touchdowns.
The 2023 season was arguably the most prolific of Nix's college career. He led the nation with 51 total touchdowns and set the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage at 77.45% (364-of-470). He broke Oregon single-season records for completions (364), passing yards (4,508), and passing touchdowns (45), while throwing just three interceptions. Nix led the 2023 Ducks to an appearance in the Pac-12 Championship Game, a win in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, and a No. 6 ranking in the final AP Poll. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting.

NFL Career
Nix was drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. On August 22, 2024, Nix was named the Broncos' starting quarterback for the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, becoming the first Broncos rookie to start since John Elway in 1983.
In his NFL debut against Seattle, Nix completed 26 of 42 passes for 138 yards, two interceptions, and a rushing touchdown in a 26-20 loss. His 138 passing yards set an NFL record for the fewest by a quarterback with 25 or more completions in a game.
Nix earned his first win in week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, throwing for 216 yards, a rushing touchdown, and no interceptions in a 26-7 victory. In week 4, he recorded his first career passing touchdown and led the Broncos to a 10-9 upset victory over the New York Jets despite ending the first half with negative passing yards and finishing the game with only 60 total passing yards.
Nix had a standout October, beginning with a three-touchdown performance in a week 5 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, followed by 216 passing yards and two touchdowns in week 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers. In week 7, he led the Broncos to a dominant 33-10 win over the New Orleans Saints, tying the franchise record for rookie quarterback wins. He capped the month with 284 passing yards, four total touchdowns, and a 75.7% completion rate in week 8 against the Carolina Panthers, setting a new franchise record with five wins as a rookie.

The following week against the Atlanta Falcons, Nix went 28-of-33 for a career-high 307 yards and four touchdowns as the Broncos won 38-6. He was originally the 4th alternate AFC Quarterback in the Pro Bowl, but was invited to play due to opt-outs.
