  • Continuing students submit their documentation to the Registrar’s Office.

Applications for proof of New York State residency can be obtained from the Office of the Registrar, Room 217 Hunter North, Hunter College, 695 Park Ave., New York, NY 10065.

If proof of New York State residence is not approved at the time of registration, students must pay out-of-state tuition. If acceptable proof is submitted and subsequently approved by the Registrar’s Office during the semester, the tuition will be adjusted accordingly to the in-state rate.

Special Note for Veterans: Veterans who are not New York State residents will be charged the same tuition rate as New York State residents for a period of 18 months from the first date of attendance at a CUNY college.

Refund Policy

Hunter College follows the CUNY refund policy, which applies to students who withdraw from courses. There are two types of student refunds: general refunds for students who drop classes within the first three weeks and refunds related to Federal Aid for federal financial aid recipients.

CUNY Policy - General Refunds

This policy applies to all students who withdraw from courses prior to the first official day of the fourth week of classes. The refund schedule is as follows:

  • 100% tuition and fees: Prior to the 1st official day of the term
  • 75% tuition only: Prior to the 1st day of the 2nd week of the term (fees are non-refundable)
  • 50% tuition only: Prior to the 1st day of the 3rd week of the term (fees are non-refundable)
  • 25% tuition only: Prior to the 1st day of the 4th week of the term (fees are non-refundable)

Return of Title IV (Federal Aid) Refunds

Students who completely and officially withdraw or unofficially withdraw from ALL their class(es) and received Federal Financial Aid are subject to a Return of Title IV Funds calculation. Federal law dictates that the amount of Federal aid earned is determined by the number of days the student is enrolled in class(es). The Office of Financial Aid calculates this for each student and sends a notification. Students are responsible for paying any liability not covered by the earned financial aid. Students who earn more funds than required to cover their bill will receive a post-withdrawal disbursement notification. Note that students who officially or unofficially withdraw are not entitled to a tuition refund, as withdrawal grades carry a liability like any other class.

Bursar’s Office

The Bursar’s Office at Hunter College is responsible for collecting all tuition and fees, coordinating the distribution of student financial aid checks, and addressing billing and payment issues.

Career Paths

The career paths for individuals with a MSW can vary widely. Salaries can be influenced by factors such as experience, expertise, location, and the specific field.
