Academic Calendar Highlights

Navigating the academic year effectively requires awareness of key dates and deadlines. IU Bloomington provides a detailed calendar outlining these important periods:

Registration and Enrollment

  • Early Enrollment/Registration: For students enrolled at IU Bloomington during the Fall semester, each student is assigned a "registration appointment" which denotes the first day and time the student can access registration online via the Student Center. Online registration remains open only through the first week of classes. This is not an appointment to speak with an academic advisor.
  • Open Registration/Schedule Adjustment: Open Registration/Schedule Adjustment is available For all students. No appointment required.
  • Schedule Adjustment: eDrop/eAdd Schedule Adjustment and Initial Registration will begin on Monday, December 29. See Registering Late for more information.
  • Waitlist Expiration: Be aware of waitlist expiration dates for each term to manage enrollment effectively. Waitlist requests expire Th Jan 15.

Refund Deadlines and Grading Options

  • Refund Deadlines: It's crucial to be aware of refund deadlines for each term, as they vary depending on the session length. Keep track of 100% Refund Deadline, 75% Refund Deadline, 50% Refund Deadline, and 25% Refund Deadline.
  • Pass/Fail Option: Students must contact their school/division dean to request signed approval for the Pass/Fail Option. See Student Central's Pass/Fail Option page for more information.
  • Drop Deadlines: Note the Last day to Drop a course without a Grade of W and when the Grade of W begins for all drops. See Student Central's Late Drop/Add instructions for more information.

Breaks and Holidays

  • Winter Session Break: The Winter Session Break offers a respite from classes. Break begins after last class on Wednesday, December 24; classes resume on Friday, January 2.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Martin Luther King Jr. Day - No classes.
  • Spring Break: Spring Break - No classes. Break begins after last class on Saturday, March 14; classes resume on Monday, March 23.

Important Academic Dates

  • Full Term Schedule of Classes Published: Full Term Schedule of Classes published This date is approximate.
  • Classes Begin: Classes Begin on specified dates for each term.
  • Faculty Verification of Class Attendance: Faculty verify class attendance and report student enrollment discrepancies through the Student Engagement Roster. Due the Sunday after the sixth week of the term.
  • Early Evaluations: Faculty submit Early Evaluation grades for all IUB beginning students through the Student Engagement Roster. Early Evaluations are due the Sunday after the sixth week of the term.
  • Final Exams: Final Exams are held During last class.

Beyond academics, Indiana University provides many opportunities for students to engage in campus life, explore new interests, and prioritize their well-being.

Entertainment and Recreation

  • Union Board Films: Union Board Films, the country’s longest-running college film series, has been screening films to the IU community since 1914. Most films are shown at the IMU’s Whittenberger Auditorium (on the first floor), however some screenings take place outdoors, too. Find out what’s playing.
  • IU Late Nite: There is a new lineup of activities and attractions every week: karaoke, craft nites, haunted houses, dances, game nites, and so much more! Check out IU Late Nite.

Athletics

  • Varsity Sports: IU offers 24 men’s and women’s sports, including football, basketball, soccer, and swimming. Put on your candy stripes, gather your friends, and cheer on the Hoosiers! See the schedule and get tickets.

Outdoor Adventures

  • State Parks: Indiana’s state parks have you covered. The closest ones to IU are Brown County State Park and McCormick’s Creek State Park. Feel like hiking?
  • Griffy Lake: Head just north of campus to discover the trails at Griffy Lake. Don’t feel like going that far?
  • IU Outdoor Adventures: Want to learn a new skill? From canoeing to wilderness first aid, IU Outdoor Adventures has a course for you.
  • Paoli Peaks: You’ll find Paoli Peaks just about an hour south of town. We’re no Colorado, for sure . . . but did you know you can go skiing right here in Southern Indiana?
  • International Space Station: And if you’re outdoors on a clear night, see if you can spot the International Space Station flying overhead.. . . or just pretend to get outdoors.
  • Virtual Travel: Dreaming of a nice warm beach? Missing the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple? Feel like going on safari in Africa? Live webcams can show you what’s happening around the world-including a view from space.

Health and Wellness

  • Student Health Center: The Student Health Center is here to help with medical services, counseling (CAPS) services, and more, including virtual visits. It’s important to take care of yourself.
  • IU Bucket List: Have spare time? Need some help relaxing? Use some of it to check a few things off of your IU Bucket List-or start your own list.
