International Education Corporation: Empowering Student Transformation Through Education
International Education Corporation (IEC) is a for-profit higher education company in the United States with a mission to drive student transformation by empowering them to make positive and enduring life changes. As an employee-owned company, IEC and its subsidiaries are dedicated to the success of students, employees, and the communities they serve. For over 40 years, IEC has remained committed to making a positive impact in the communities it serves by providing access to quality, short-term vocational and career training programs in high-demand verticals like healthcare, business, skilled trades, and criminal justice.
History and Evolution
Originally founded in 1982 in Los Angeles, California, under the name United Electronics Institute, IEC has undergone significant evolution. In 1998, IEC acquired Advanced Career Training (ACT), which later became United Education Institute (UEI) in January 2010. In 2009, the eight Southern California United Education Institute campuses transitioned to UEI College. These strategic moves have allowed IEC to expand its reach and diversify its educational offerings.
Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
IEC believes that positive social change will come about only when the barriers of gender identity, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and religious beliefs are overcome. IEC champions diversity, inclusion, and equality across its network of schools and inspires a new generation of graduates to be active participants in these endeavors in their local communities. In 2020, IEC created the Be the Change Scholarship program in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. With this scholarship, IEC seeks to honor an individual who has the passion, drive, and commitment to be an agent of change for social justice. The Be the Change Scholarship is now offered annually at United Education Institute and UEI College.
Locations and Expansion
IEC operates a network of colleges and schools across the United States. These include:
- UEI College: With its first campus established in Van Nuys, CA, in October 1983, UEI College has expanded to multiple locations. In July 2010, IEC acquired MCed College in Fresno, CA, and converted this campus to UEI College. Colleges with campus locations in Anaheim, San Marcos, Montclair, Riverside, and San Diego in California.

IEC has identified truck driver training as an underserved area with tremendous demand.
- Formerly Florida Career College: The Department of Education began to deny Florida Career College access to federal financial aid. The department alleged that the college "improperly allowed students without a high school diploma or equivalent credential to test into eligibility for federal aid." The following year, administrators announced that the college would close by February 15, 2024.
