In their first season under head coach Ben McCollum (an Iowa native who came from Drake), the Hawkeyes have thrived on ball security - five gaves with at least 20 assists and seven games with fewer than 10 turnovers. In their loss to the Trojans, freshman guard Journey Houston posted a career-high and team-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. She added eight rebounds, two assists and one steal in 26 minutes off the bench. Iowa is outscoring opponents by 16.5 points per game, with a +347 scoring differential overall. Iowa knocks down 7.4 three-pointers per game (77th in college basketball) compared to its opponents’ 7.4.

UCLA Bruins

UCLA (20-1) has managed to stay near the top of the AP poll, but still lingers behind No. 1 UConn, which ended its season in last year's Final Four. The Bruins' only loss so far came at the hands of No. 4 Texas, 76-65 on Nov. 26, but the blue and gold have since won 14 straight. The Bruins have a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging at least 10 points per game: Tyler Bilodeau (19.0 ppg), Donovan Dent (12.6 ppg and a team-leading 79 assists), Skyy Clark (14.2 ppg and 49.3% on 3-point field goals, tops in the Big Ten) and Eric Dailey Jr. (10.6 ppg and a team-leading 5.6 rebounds per game). UCLA is battle-tested from a tough nonconference schedule. Its losses were to Arizona, California and Gonzaga, a trio with a combined record of 37-2. In the Bruins' 80-67 victory at Illinois earlier this week, senior center Lauren Betts powered the Bruins to victory behind 23 points on 8-of-20 shooting. On the season, Betts leads the team in scoring: 16.5 points per game on 56.2% shooting. Senior guard Kiki Rice follows closely: 15 points per game on 49.1% shooting.
