Navigating IUP Admissions: GPA and Other Requirements
Gaining admission to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) is an achievable goal for many students. Despite this policy, the truth is that most students still take the SAT or ACT, and most applicants to IUP will submit their scores. If you don't submit scores, you'll have one fewer dimension to show that you're worthy of being admitted, compared to other students.
For students who choose to submit scores, the middle 50% range for admitted students is:
- SAT: 970-1180
- ACT: 20-28
Even though IUP hasn't explicitly named a policy on SAT/ACT requirements, but because it's published average SAT or ACT scores , it's likely test flexible. Typically, these schools say, "if you feel your SAT or ACT score represents you well as a student, submit them.
If your SAT score is currently below a 970, we strongly recommend that you consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. To try to aim for the school's ACT requirement of 20 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as you can. By and large, most colleges do not superscore the ACT. (Superscore means that the school takes your best section scores from all the test dates you submit, and then combines them into the best possible composite score).

Portfolio/Audition: Academically qualified applicants to the departments of Art, Music, and Theatre and Dance will be admitted to the university by the Admissions Committee. However, admission to the requested major will be subject to the acceptance by the Department of Art after a portfolio review and by the departments of Music (all majors), and Theatre, Dance and Performance departments after an audition.
Language Requirement: There is no language requirement for admission to IUP. Certain majors at IUP require completion of a foreign language at the intermediate level to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Tuition Deposit and Orientation: Once you are admitted, you are asked to make a $150 tuition deposit to hold your place in the class. You will sign up for a New Student Orientation program. International students are not admitted for summer terms unless they are applying to a “summer-only program” or they are already IUP students.
