Jack Jones: From USC Recruit to NFL Cornerback
Jack Jones, born on December 20, 1997, is an American professional football cornerback currently playing for the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL). His journey to the NFL was marked by initial high school acclaim, collegiate challenges, and ultimately, professional success.
Early Years and High School Career
Jones emerged as a highly touted prospect from high school, earning a five-star rating and ranking as the #19 overall recruit by 247Sports.com. His talent attracted significant attention, leading to offers from prominent programs such as Alabama and Texas A&M. Ultimately, he committed to USC on February 3, 2016, making his announcement during an interview with Snoop Dogg.
USC and Junior College
Jones quickly became a starter for USC during his sophomore season. However, his time with the Trojans was cut short due to academic struggles, leading to his dismissal before his junior year. Seeking to improve his grades, he transferred to Moorpark College, a junior college in California.
Arizona State and Collegiate Success
After improving his academic standing at Moorpark College, Jones committed to Arizona State as a three-star JUCO recruit. During his junior year with the Sun Devils, he played in 13 games, starting in one. A standout performance in the Territorial Cup against the University of Arizona, where he recorded two interceptions, earned him the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week award. He concluded the 2019 season with a Pac-12 All-Conference selection and a Pro Football Focus Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
The 2020 season saw Jones participate in only two games as a senior, recording five total tackles. He returned to Arizona State as a graduate student in 2021, amassing 42 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss and a strip sack. He also had three interceptions, including an 86-yard pick-six against Arizona on November 27.
