He strung together 12 games of 20 or more points which is tied for the second-longest streak in program history. He became the first freshman in school history to total three games with 30 or more points, including a 35-point performance against Florida, which tied the single-game freshman scoring record held by Terrence Jones. First player in the Calipari era to score 700 or more points, and only Cotton Nash, who reached 700 points in 30 games in 1961-62, did it faster at UK.

Beyond scoring, Murray showcased his versatility with 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He was incredibly productive behind the arc with 113 made 3-pointers on the year. That mark is the second-most in a single year in program history, just four shy of Jodie Meeks’ record. It is the most for any freshman in SEC history. It is also the second most by a freshman in NCAA history, just nine shy of Stephen Curry’s record set in 2006-07. He made at least one 3-pointer in all 36 games this season, becoming the only player in program history to achieve that feat. His stretch of 36 games with at least one made 3-pointer broke Tony Delk’s record of 34 consecutive games with a made 3, which was set over two seasons.

Additional UK freshman records Murray set include: most games of 20 or more points (18), points in a single season (720). Scored in double figures in 35 of 36 games and in 34 straight, while scoring 15 or more points in 31 contests. The 34 straight games in double figures are the most since Kenny Walker had 36-straight double-figure scoring games in 1985-86. Became the first UK player to score at least 18 points in each of the first seven SEC games of a season since Meeks in 2008-09 and is the first freshman in school history to achieve the feat.

He averaged 26.4 points per game in February, the highest scoring month for a Wildcat since Meeks averaged 28.0 points per game in January 2009. According to ESPN, Murray was the nation’s leading scorer at 25.8 points per game from Feb. 1 to March 3. His eight 3-pointers against Florida tied Eric Bledsoe (March 18, 2010 vs. East Tennessee State) for the most in the Calipari era. One of only two players (Kyle Wiltjer) to hit seven or more 3-pointers twice in a game under Calipari. His .800 percentage from behind the arc against the Gators is the best 3-point percentage in a single game in school history with a minimum of 10 attempts. First freshman in school history to make at least five 3-pointers in consecutive games when he turned the trick against Florida and Georgia. Has the most games with three or more made 3-pointers in a game in the Calipari era with 20 such outings. Scored 27 second-half points vs. Ohio State, which are the most of any Wildcat in a half under Calipari. His 21 first-half points at Vanderbilt are the most in an opening half in the Calipari era. Had 30-point games against Florida (35), Ohio State (33) and at Vanderbilt (33).

Early Years (2016-2019)

Upon joining the Nuggets, Murray quickly established himself as a key member of the team. On August 9, 2016, Murray signed his rookie scale contract with the Nuggets. He made his NBA debut on October 26, 2016, scoring nine points in a 107-102 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. On November 13, he scored 19 points off the bench in a 112-105 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. On November 22, he scored a then season-high 20 points in a 110-107 win over the Chicago Bulls. Despite facing setbacks due to injury, Murray remained a resilient and determined player, contributing significantly to the Nuggets' success. On February 19, 2021, Murray scored a then career-high 50 points in a 120-103 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. During the game he became the first player in NBA history to score 50 points without attempting a free throw, as well as being the second player to get 50 points while shooting more than 80 percent from the field and from three-point range. On April 12, Murray suffered a torn ACL on his left knee during a game against the Golden State Warriors. The following day, the Nuggets announced Murray would be out indefinitely. On April 21, Murray underwent surgery on the torn ACL on his left knee.

In the 2022-2023 season, Murray made a triumphant return from injury, playing a pivotal role in the Nuggets' historic championship run. In Game 2 of the Nuggets' first round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Murray scored 40 points in a 122-113 win. This was his fifth 40-point postseason game, passing Alex English for the franchise record. In Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals, Murray recorded 34 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists in a 125-107 win over the Phoenix Suns. In Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, Murray scored 23 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter, along with 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals, propelling the Nuggets to a 108-103 come-from-behind win over the Los Angeles Lakers for a 2-0 lead in the series. In Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals, Murray scored 30 of his 37 points in the first half, along with seven rebounds and six assists in a 119-108 win, helping the Nuggets take a commanding 3-0 series lead. Murray was again an integral part of the Nuggets during Game 4, during which he scored 25 points en route to a 113-111 victory. With the win, the Nuggets completed a 4-game sweep of the Lakers and advanced to their first-ever NBA Finals appearance. In Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Murray put up 26 points and 10 assists in a 104-93 win over the Miami Heat. He and Nikola Jokić also became only the second pair of teammates in NBA history to each put up at least 25 points and 10 assists in an NBA Finals game since Magic Johnson and James Worthy in the 1987 NBA Finals. In Game 3, Murray posted a 30-point triple-double with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 109-94 win over the Heat. He and Jokić became the first teammates in NBA history (regular season or playoffs) to record 30-point triple-doubles in the same game. In Game 4, Murray put up 15 points and 12 assists in a 108-95 win over the Heat. He also became the first player in NBA history to put up at least 10 assists in each of his first four Finals games. In Game 5, Murray put up 14 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in a 94-89 win over the Heat to help lead the Nuggets to their first NBA championship in franchise history.

Continued Success (2023-Present)

Murray has continued to be a vital part of the Denver Nuggets, showcasing his skills and leadership on the court. On April 22, 2024, in Game 2 of the first round of the playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers, Murray put up 20 points along with a buzzer-beating, game-winning fadeaway jump shot over Anthony Davis in a 101-99 victory, completing the Nuggets' 20-point comeback and giving the Nuggets a 2-0 series lead.
